[Ride along] Squad 14 LACoFD

Ride along with squad 14 from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, following a private BLS ambulance to the hospital in Inglewood. The patient was the victim of a stroke and its condition requested one of the squad paramedics to remain in the ambulance to provide ALS care. The squad's electronic siren is made by Unitrol but the truck also has a two tone air horn siren similar to the french ones and can be operated by the passenger (in this case me: the cameraman) through a foot switch - by Dirk Steinhardt - www.rescue911.de - Los Angeles, California, USA - 09.2010 - Thanks to the guys from 14!!!

they are paramedic firefighters, and commonly respond to medical calls, and fire calls. watch the show Emergency! on hulu, it seems about right with the role of the squad

Yet another great video, Dirk. Great two-tones! I am a very keen fire enthusiast particularly of UK brigades because I'm a Brit. But recently I have been more and more drawn to US fire departments - the apparatus, the stations etc. But I am still getting a little confused about certain terminologies that seem to differ from department to department. I've heard Squads used to describe HazMat teams, brush fire units and ambulances. But can you tell me what the role of LACFD squads is please?

@bonzty Thats actuly not a French siren. Its a mode of siren most commenly found on electronic sirens. It is assiociated with Europe because they use it more often.

Also wrong. There is 2 sirens on this old truck... The wail and Yelp are the only tones that the LA County FD would use on the Unitrol Touchmaster electronic siren box. The Hi-Lo sound, is actually a 2 tone air horn made by Fiamm, which can be activated by using a separate pedal or a separate button that's NOT connected to the Unitrol box.

LACoFD Does not transport they use private ambulance service, the Squad follows up to get his partner and If the patient goes south they can have the second medic jump in and assist. Also If the patient is bad and the patient requires 2 Medics a FF can drive the squad to the hospital. They run code because in LA County you have to have 2 Paramedics to respond to a call also If you are a paramedic Ambulance both people must be Paramedics.

The ambulance was an older spare with its original halogen lights. That unit has since retired for an all LED fleet for the McCormick Ambulance corps.

I understand that one squad member transports on the ambulance, I'm just confused as to why the second squad member follows with lights and sirens on as opposed to driving with the flow of traffic.

The 2 tone horns were in use since the 60s within the LA County and LA City FD. You can hear it on later episodes of the LA County FD drama, "Emergency!"

@bonzty It's not a French siren. LAcoFD uses Fiat Hi-Lo sirens from Italy. These sirens are TRUE Hi-Lo sirens unlike the disgusting Hi-Lo tones American companies try to IMITATE in their electronic sirens. In European countries I was impressed by the effective warning a real Hi-Lo produces. Americans keep adding 10 tone electronic sirens, mechanical Q sirens, bells, horns, and now rumblers and we still keep struggling to clear traffic, all because people are immune to U.S. sirens blaring.

However, Fiamm has a Specific air horn siren that the Italians use for their firemen, "La Sirena Pneumatica" . A very strange siren thats rarely used anymore by Vigili Del Fuoco (Firefighters), Ambulanza (Paramedics) and specialty groups: the VAB (based on Germany's THW, a Technical rescue service), Forest Firefighters and Civil Protection.

That is the rules in LA county. Whoever is 1st shall lead the way with full siren usage, and rightfully so, the ambulance leads the way so it can get to the ER doors 1st.

have you seen emergency engine 8 responds to a hartatack and there are no rescue units engine8 has to wait ten mints for rescue 8 to get clear and by the time thay get there he dead and when s thay get him to rampart he flatlines. im telling you theres no way a victom should have to pay.
