I really enjoy how good you are with these synthesizers. They aren't really an instrument I put a lot of thought into until I got here, where you are able to create very complete and complex songs, with only a mild 80's nostalgia feel, compared to the overbearing synthpop sounds I remember from the 80's. It's like in the 80's they made sure you knew they were using a synthesizer, where as you use a synthesizer to create a full range of sounds that don't sound like traditional synthesizer. I think. I don't really know much about what I talk.
@mrnice44343 жыл бұрын
Why do you think they are not " really an instrument"? You take an input and modify it with it to produce a sound, just a every other instrument.

I'm still shocked when I hear people talk like synthesizers are not instruments... In 2021.. The 80's was 40 years ago. The music in that era was groundbreaking and the pinnacle of American culture. Music was becoming layered and full. Our music will never be the same as before then. Synthesizers are here to stay, and many people have no idea how nearly every song they hear is touched with digital synthesis technology. The lines have been blurred because of digital technology; i'm happy music keeps moving forward. Retro influences are great too, because its like bringing back those big fat pads and strings, and growling basslines. Nothing wrong with that, especially after so much 90's dance music influence for so long. There is a lot of depth and style in the past 40 years that makes the synthesizer the greatest musical instrument ever created. And I have not even got into all the kinds of synthesizers! Truly a time to be alive.

In the 80’s the goal of most synthesizer manufactures was to achieve a realistic sound. They tried hard to make it sound like an accoustic instrument but the limitations of the technology of the time gave it it’s own sonic texture. Old school samples like the Fairlight CMI but also FM synthesizers like the DX7 are notable examples. They had their limitations but where state of the art for the time. Fast forward to the present day, we have computers with fast, powerfull cpu’s that can do computationally intensive tasks to achieve what they sought in the 80’s. Contemporary synthesizers and software instruments make extensively use of physical modelling to create a sound that can’t be distinguished from the real thing anymore. It’s mighty impressive what they can do nowerdays. I personally really like that mid 80’s sound, it’s a throwback to the early childhood for me. For me a synth (of any kind) is just as much an instruments as a grand piano. An instrument is an instrument. They both make sound, but do it in a very different way and have their own character. From a technical point, we haven’t reached the end yet. There’s still a lot to explore in the wonderful world of sound synthesis.

I would love a video on how you go about playing something like this. I get classical music, I get guitar/bass/drums, I get computer app made music. But how do you keep track of and manipulate all those analog everythings and am able make anything reproducible? I’m always fascinated when it’s not just my ability to do that fails, but to comprehend how it can be done. It’s like a magic show, but it won’t be any less magical if you know! Also, bodge together something so you can play use both hands. A hands free if you will. But with that same neat microphone you have there :)
@theoracle74633 жыл бұрын
From what I sort of understand he is probably got all the things on the modular synth (the one on the left) hooked up with patch cables to be synced and using sequencers to play the bassline melody stuff and is just tweaking the stuff that effects the sound and playing with volume to bring stuff in and out, then on the right he just has some basic all in one keyboard synth things and is just playing melodies on them and also tweaking the patches and you could probably run them through a looper pedal if you want them to keep going without your hands on the keys
