I'm here again just to watch the smiles and grins between Herring and Isbell. Love seeing people playing with other great musicians who bring them out of their more commonly expected style.

The only thing wrong with this song is that YT decided to interrupt it no less than three times with idiotic ads. The playing and synergy are amazing. Jason blends perfectly, and is playing like a guest musician (not showing off or taking over).

Honestly my first time hearing this group. Only looked into because I saw in my paper they had passed the Grateful Dead for appearances at Red Rocks. Now I have never seen these guys but the Dead I have seen dozens of times at the Rocks. I will try and check them out but the $9.73 seat price will not buy you a bag of peanuts now SAD. I remember the legend of Denver Concert Promoter telling me he was getting out. "Because it was no longer the music business It was the business of music". How right Barry was about it all we miss you my friend.

Dig into the studio work. No doubt Isbell can play the guitar, but he really doesnt do jam music. Although I will suggest checking out some of his slide solos on the songs Decoration Day and Children of Children. As far as studio recs: Southeastern is a masterpiece. Personally I really love Sirens of the Ditch. Are you familiar with Drive-By Truckers? Jason was a member from 2001-2007 and wrote some of their pretty undisputedly greatest songs. Which now are some of Jason's most iconic and revered tunes. His songwriting truly is on another level than most everyone else out there writing songs right now. Let it grow on you. Just as they say about poetry - "Listen to it at LEAST three times before you even begin to start contemplating a meaning."

To the people putting down Mr. Isbell: He is a great( boardering on brilliant) songwriter who can write better than just about anyone else alive. If jam band guitar wankery is your thing, then yeah, i guess these guys from widespread panic can play scales longer and faster than he can. I would to see this band write a song like Outfit. Or Elephant. Or Dress Blue. Or Live Oak. Jason is a rare, rare talent.
@loganmcdanks7 жыл бұрын
y'all are tripping...jimmy herring has more talent in his right arm than isbell...no disrespect to him cuts he's pretty good but first of all i went and listened to the songs you mentioned and none of them hold a candle to 75% of the wsp catalog as far as interesting chord choices and fun, unique, and catchy melodies/guitar riffs. second of all as far as guitar paying goes jimmy herring is much more than "jam band guitar wankery" if you listen to his solo stuff and his interviews you'd see he knows jazz and music theory better than 99% of guitarists and is capable of much more than just scales and long, fast solos. he isn't bordering on brilliant ...he is brilliant.. not be a ball washer j/s

I actually discovered DBT during set break at oak mtn shows in 2001. They were playing them over PA. Became huge fan and followed them a good bit. It was extremely obvious who was the serious musician in that group. Best thing Isbell did was get sober, start his solo career and prove how unbelievably talented he is. Extremely underrated guitarist (whose getting his props now) and is definitely a top 2-3 songwriter out there right now

@rtchamberlain4 жыл бұрын
Joshua Bloodsworth I don’t think they were trying to replicate JJ’s sound. Panic always plays themselves even when they cover stuff. They take a song and put it into their formula. They tip the hat to the artists they love and respect that inspired them. I believe their mentality is to “let the music play the band”
