Ich höre nun oft bei Ihren Veröfflichtungen zu. Es freut mich immer wieder alte und neue Gesichter zu entdecken und ich wäre sehr froh, wenn es so weiter geht und mir auch hoffentlich in NRW bald die Möglichkeit bietet Sie einmal live zu erleben. Aber bis dahin, wäre mir doch eine Zusammenarbeit mit Taizé und dem Chor nicht verkehrt. Ich denke es könnte sehr gut hamonisieren und die einzelnen Musiker auf beiden Seiten würden profitieren. Zumindest würde ich direkt eine CD erwerben. Vielleicht ein Anreiz mal ab von dem Modernen hin zur kirchlichen, modernen, mediativen Musik.

Nothing against these singers, but it’s a poor judgement call selecting spirituals when you don’t have any people of color in your group. Spirituals are closely intertwined with slavery and were often sung while they worked the fields in southern plantations. If you’re going to perform this song as an “all white” choir, at least be very serious about it.

We wholeheartedly disagree with that sentiment. The historical origins of a musical style are distinct from its contemporary performance practices. Baroque table music, which was strictly reserved for the nobility, can now be played and enjoyed by anyone, anywhere in the world. According to your logic, only the original inventors of an art form would be allowed to practice it. We enjoy the music and we sing it-and not all of us are even religious. In a concert, the music itself takes center stage, not necessarily its historical significance.
