Love the way the rock and roll starts up at the California state line! I learned to drive on that road when it was narrower (no 4 lanes yet) and curvier, they have straightened quite a few of the worst curves. I lived in Gasquet about 17 miles from the coast and there is one high school in the county. Miss the bus and you were in trouble, till I got my own car anyway.

It is a very beautiful drive. I understand it is currently closed due to a wildfire at the Oregon/California border.

Thank you so much for posting this. I got so homesick for Oregon - as a child we drove from Roseburg OR to Fortuna CA, and once my dad drove his motorcycle over the same route. I really appreciate your sharing this.

Thank you so much for this video! Since December I have been planning what I call "Sam's Big Trip" but Covid-19 put paid to that and I'm in the UK exploring and blogging my 18 days in the USA online. My plan for yesterday was to drive from Grants Pass to Crescent City to dip my toe in the Pacific - because despite living in America back in the 70's I never made it to the West Coast, and to walk in the Redwood Forests. Your video made that possible! Thank you :-)

Well thank you very much for taking the time to write such a great comment. It is really nice to hear when someone gets something special from one of my vids. I am really sorry that this Covid-19 has laid waste to your travel plans. I bet Sam's Big Trip was going to be awesome! But you are obviously pretty awesome to find a way to make it work anyway, very well done! Hopefully we can get this thing under control and we all can start planning for a better next year. Thanks again for your comment!

It was a pleasure - and I have just accompanied you from Red Lodge to Belfry! My Big Trip didn't start off as a big trip, just a man (I used to be his nanny back in the 70's!) inviting me to visit him in New York, and then I got to thinking about a wonderful quilting shop in Grants Pass and all the other things I could do - such as Amtrak's Empire Builder from Seattle to Chicago and then visit friends in Norfolk VA, and then go to NY to visit Pavlos. It was fun planning it and with your videos I still get to see some of the country! Stay safe, stay well, and best wishes - Sam

If you do make it to the West Coast, I would suggest going to Portland OR and take HWY 26 over to the coast and go all the way down Hwy 101 to Brookings, OR. It is nearly coastal Ocean views all the way down the coast. Another beautiful road in OR. I live in Grants Pass OR. You can take that 199 trip back to Grants Pass from Brookings traveling this same route as the video.

This was a beautiful ride, Grants Pass. OR to Crescent City, CA. I live in GP and makes me want to get in the car and go for a drive over there. Another beautiful drive is to go to Portland, OR and drive down 101 to Brookings, OR. The ocean will be on the right hand side nearly all the way. Thank you for posting this. Enjoyed it very much.

Unfortunately as of tonight, 199 is closed because of a 7000 acre fire on the right near that tunnel. It is really sad.

I have rode 101 but I did it south to north, my usual preference for a highway if I am filming it as it avoids sun glare in the recording. 101 is a great ride either direction, awesome views, and lots of points of interest!

Wow, I did not know this was happening, thanks for letting me know. I looked it up and it is the Smith River area, the curviest part of this road. It is sad, but it is part of nature's cycles. Even by next year we will see new growth re-claiming the burnt areas as the cycle continues, but we will never see the forest again there in our lifetimes. Sadder is that there are people living in that forest, including a couple small communities, and losing one's home is something that is extremely hard to recover from.

It is a really great highway to explore, as are many of the other highways in Oregon that travel between the coast and the I 5 corridor, and yes it is great on a bike! Thanks for watching, and taking the time to comment. Please do share with your peeps, the more the better!

Please don't we have enough out of stater's here and honestly it's really destroyed the wildness of Oregon and has made it much harder on simple Oregonians sorry but it so very true....

the fence you stopped and took a picture at is one of the best short hikes in the Redwoods, you walk across the big downed tree and the trail is below
@RobertMerz6 жыл бұрын
We did do a little bit of hiking there and another spot that we accessed by a dirt road. It would be a shame to travel through the Redwoods without hiking among these giants.

This one we know as we did in 2014 coming dwn from Alaska. I am interested in what the cost was hotels and etc
@RobertMerz7 жыл бұрын
Costs in Grants Pass were reasonable, as you get to the coast, either Oregon or California the costs get higher. The small towns in the interior states generally give way better value, and tend to be a bit more friendly than the (left) coast states.

Hello Nathaniel, you live in a beautiful part of the country, and you have good riding all around you! I hope you do well on the bike, be safe, always be aware, and even if you already have your licence it isn't a bad idea to take a safety course if you haven't already. I do hope you will enjoy more of my videos, I have a few from right in your area. Thanks for watching, and leaving a comment.

Been on this road about 5 times. Was in Cresent City last July 2018 the town is becoming a trash operated city. To much gang stuff. Stopped at the Taco Bell for lunch. Walked in, walked out. Total garbage of a fast food chain.
