Great vid, man! Thanks for detailed review in all conditions. Got my pig just a few days ago and this thing blow's my mind. Super stable and agile in the same time. Holding edge like razor. Fast, nimble and pushing you to do something stupid. I'm 30 y.o. and did not riding like that about 5 years. What a inspiring piece of bacon :D.

Your review is spot on! I’m 6’3” 165 size 11.5. I normally ride a 157-162 TRS. I’m riding a 148 warpig as my daily driver. That short isn’t as capable of the top speeds, but it’s the most fun board to go from the Chutes , to the trees, across the groomers, and finishing in the park, all in the same run!

Hey Malcolm!! I’ve been in the market for a warpig for awhile now and I’ve been riding a 163cm nitro mountain but I feel like it’s a bit big for me and it’s definitely not wide enough at all… I’ve done a little research on the warpig and some videos say it’s about 10cm off from what you normally ride? I’m 6’3 and about 200lbs with a size 12 boot. Which size should I try and go for? Also… should I get the 2021 model or the new 2022 warpig model. I don’t see a difference but just in price!! Please let me know!! Literally anything helps!!!! Absolutely loved the video man!!!

Hi, great insight into the WarPig and also really like your Dancehaul review. Trying to pick between two, for my first volume shifted board. Older Intermediate rider 6’1, 82kg, UK12 boots, love just turning / playing on the groomers, searching for pow and riding the tree line in Japan and Europe. Coming down from a Jones Explorer 164w, want a bit more manoeuvrability, float in pow and energy out of a turn. 154 WarPig seems the perfect sizing ticks most boxes and I can buy locally in HongKong, (big plus) 159 Dancehaul has that bit of camber, but is more directional and I would have to have it shipped in (can be a headache, once ordered a Slash Brainstorm and it arrived with the inserts set forward). Have considered the SuperPig (can also buy locally)but feel it will be too much board for my riding ability, any advice would be great? Cheers Chris

Hei ,keep up the good work i really like your clips and I hope to see more. And a question, would you recommend this board to a beginner- intermediar?
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore 4 жыл бұрын
Hey there, whilst you are learning to change your edge the added width of this board can make it a little more difficult to turn. However once you are turning you won't really find it a problem. The board has no camber, meaning it is completely flat between the feet, which also makes it a little easier to turn. So yes, whilst probably not the best board for first timers, I would recommend it to intermediate riders for sure!

Hi Sweet Video, I’m stoked to get the board!!! I’m about to purchase the 2020 model. My weight ranges through the season typically between 150 pounds-160ish. Ill be riding in California (a lot of man made snow) and in Oregon where I will be riding a lot of powder. What size do you recommend I get 148 or 151 ? Thanks in advance !
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Carlos, either size will work fine for you. The 151 will be a little better when you get it in powder, whereas the 148 will be a bit easier for you to flex and put into presses for when you're jibbing, so it comes down to your riding style. However if your feet are size 9 or above I would definitely go for the Medium, as the 148 has a waist width of 260 which whilst it is still wider than a normal board it's not that wide, but the 151 has a 265 waist width which is nice and wide if you have bigger feet!

Hey Malcolm - thanks for the review. I’m a surfer and skater, new to snowboarding. I also where a size 14.5UK boot (15 US), and am 6’ 3”, 200 lbs. I went out for the first time last week on a normal/narrow board in icey conditions. The board was so narrow that the ball of my foot felt like it was off the board, and felt like I was balancing on my heels, super unbalanced. I was catching a lot of rails and falling. Yesterday we got a bunch of powder and I went snowboarding for the second time, rented a burton instigator 165W (270 waist). The combo of that board in powder felt like a completely different sport. It was amazing. I felt like I was surfing/skating, spinning, carving, I loved it! So I’m looking to get a board that good for a beginner who has big feet and board sport background. I was looking at the warpig large. But then a buddy was selling his warpig medium 151W (265 waist) for half price. Would the medium be ok for someone with size 14.5UK boot? Or am I making a mistake going smaller to save? My budget is a bit tight right now

If it's a case of making the budget work then maybe but to be honest that's a but small for you. I'm on the 154 weighing less and with smaller feet. I would make do on something else until you can get something that will work better for you.

HI Malcolm, great video on the Warpig. I am an intermediate rider looking for an all mountain board. I ride mostly groomers but this year, my intention is to learn switch and riding bumps ... and powder for sure when available. I'm around 5'8 and 160lbs. My understanding is I should size down to maybe 151? I have a 158 and 156 now. The shorter board at first appealed to me since I want to do some moguls but I did hear that this board may be a bit slow from edge to edge since it's wider? I would appreciate your advice. Great review! I’m in the northeast so lots of hard pack days and ice. How do you feel this board holds an edge in those type conditions? Also spring like slushy days?
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! This board does surprisingly well on hardback and ice considering it has a flat base. However if grip on ice is a priority I have to say nothing beats magnetraction, so boards like lib tech. As for slush this board really shines, any wider board will be awesome in the slush, think of the capita slush slasher for example, it's simply just a short fat board but is awesome in slush, and this board is the same.
@Chaugar

Spring like slush days are the tits. Any board will ride amazing in slush. Slush is 2nd only to riding powder in terms of fun. Check out Jones, Arbor, Libtech, GNU for magnetraction. Or if your bindings are stiff and responsive along with a stiff board, it will give you more control as well.

If you want it for the pow as well I would probably go for the 154 but either will work for you! Just a quick mention of something that isn't mentioned in this video though, the topsheet of the board delaminates really easy though, it doesn't affect the performance but still doesn't look great. Other options to think about if this puts you off are the k2 party platter, although this a fist bit softer, or the amplid dada is pretty similar too!

Hey Malcolm, thanks for the great video! I got the same question as almost everyone else: What's the right board size for me? I am 5'6" and weigh (with gear) about 135lbs (62kg). Thats just above the recommended weight for the 142 of 130lbs. The only board I've ridden the past 10 years is a very stiff speed carver (F2 Eliminator), which is a bit too long for me (157cm). So downsizing 10cm from that would be 148, but downsizing from my recommended board size (about 152) would be 142cm. I would like to have a more turn-friendly and playful board and I'am afraid the 148 would not give me enough of that. On the other hand, I've never ridden a Warpig, so maybe a 148 is perfect for me as someone who only rode a very long stiff board. So what do you think about buying the 142 and be a bit overweight? Is it too small? Greetings!

Hey Malcolm I just recently started watching ur vids and I’m loving all the content. I’m an intermediate snowboarder but I actually have no idea what size I’m meant to ride and I’m looking to get the warpig. My height is 69 inches (5 foot 9 inches) and weigh 185 pounds and my shoe size is 9.5 us. I am able to get ahold of either a small or medium but I can’t decide which one is better as I’m nervous about toe and heel drag but I also don’t want too big a board. Interestingly enough I have actually used a 153cm rossignol decoy many times and am used to it, therefore I am also debating if the warpig 151 is too little of a cut down from that. Or maybe even the 154 I really don’t know anything about buying boards. I’m not very worried about the weight being over the small as I saw a new size sheet for the 2021 new warpig and they say up to 205 pounds for the small. So I would fit in all 3 categories. Or should I get the ultra pig since I’m not a beginner?
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore 3 жыл бұрын
Like the spec sheet says you could go small or medium but it sounds like you're looking for a smaller board anyways! The toe drag shouldn't be an issue, but it definitely wont be on the medium. The medium will be a little bit more work but once you get used to it the added waist will be awesome for carving. The smaller one will have the edge in the park, tight spots, and will feel a little more playful, but both sizes can still do everything. You could go for the superpig, I havent ridden it, but I found the warpig to be plenty aggressive enough, and worry the superpig wouldn't be as fun jibbing about. The camber on the superpig would feel great out of turns though...

@@malcolmmoore is there a big difference between how the small or medium (or even large) will perform? I enjoy doing all aspects of this sport. It really pretty annoying that I fit into 3 categories I just can’t decide. Lol Also what do u feel about the warpig in comparison to the dancehaul?
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore 3 жыл бұрын
As they get bigger they will be more work to turn, but also a little more stable at high speeds so you need to find the balance that works for your weight. I thought I would need the XL but actually the L was plenty enough for me. Compared to the dancehaul the warpig is a better all rounder, better in the park, and better at switch. The dancehaul is definitely much better in powder though, and I feel like it is a more fun board on the piste, just not quite as aggressive and it needs good conditions to work in.

I would go for the 154 for sure. I'm not sure if you mean the 2021/22 model or not, but it might be worth looking at the newer version if not as they have finally sorted out the topsheet on it which was the only issue I had with the board as it delams super easy. I'm actually going to get the amplid dada this season in a 154. Quite similar but I think it'll be a bit better in pow, and it was easier to jib too!

Hey Vincent, you're just a little lighter than me and I'm on the 154, so you are kind of in between the two. Either will work for you so I would just pick one depending more on your riding style. The large will be slightly better at charging harder, performing better carves, and will also have a bit more float in powder. Whilst if you spend more of your time jibbing and spinning then the medium will be good for that. It will be easier for you to bend and press the board.

@malcolmmoore 4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't worry too much about boots and bindings. Boots just make sure they fit you well, your toes should be up against the end of the boot when you're standing normally as when you bend your knees it pulls them back a fraction, andI don't like anything overly stiff. I have burton imperials right now. But in the past I have had nitro boots, and 32 boots as well. For bindings I like something with a bit more board feel underfoot. I wasn't a fan of K2 bindings. Right now I'm on Union contact pros, but I also really like burton cartels and malavitas. I've also ridden ride bindings before which had a really comfy footbed, and they lasted ages.

Riding style is advanced intermediate, 175lbs US12 & spend most my time on groomers, side hits & carving, too old for park. I haven't actually ridden the simple pleasures but it was definitely a board I was looking at. I ended up going for the Warpig as I spend alot of time riding switch when I'm teaching lessons. I've heard it's meant to be really good though. The one issue I've had with the Warpig is that the topsheet delaminates very easily. First time round they replaced my board on warranty but now they're not replacing it again. It took about 3 weeks for it to start happening and whilst it doesn't affect the ride it looks pretty bad, and it means the wood will start to go soggy. Where abouts in NZ are you? One thing I don't get about the Warpig is the sidecut radius. On the 158 it's listed as 5.9-7.2m. I have a Burton Juice Wagon that is 7.2m, I like it, particularly on steep slopes, but on more gentle gradients and when trying to make long carves it's not so much fun (you can't make a longer radius carved turn than the radius of the sidecut). However, it looks like you're making some pretty long turns on this thing? I've realised 8m is pretty much the perfect general do-everything radius, and I'd like to go bigger up to 9m for eurocarving.

The warpig takes a little bit of getting used to but it is a really good board. One issue is that the topsheet delaminates really easily. It doesn't affect the ride but it looks a bit crap. Hello Malcolm. Would you recommend this board to a beginner/intermediate level? Online they say if you buy Warpig go down in size (one size smaller than usual), do you agree?
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely size down the board. In a normal style board I ride 160 and for the warpig I ride 154. If you are making early edge changes, that is that you are able to change edge before the fall line, then I would say this board will be ok for you. But if your turns are still quite skidded and you are not getting any grip until the end of the turn then this board will feel like more of a hinderence. Basically it needs to be ridden properly. Some things to be wary of are that the topsheet construction on this board is really bad and it delaminates super easy. Maybe they've changed it for this year but I can't say. Otherwise I did love it. This year I'm actually moving to the amplid dada. It's pretty similar but a little more playful in the tip and tail. The slightly softer flex would also make it a bit better for a beginner! I've been riding it this summer on the glacier and will get my review up just before winter gets underway.

I'm old...real old, so I'm not doing high speed carves, not sure I'm strong enough but want to be able to ride a more stable cruise and go a little faster sometimes, and do quick turns on our narrow trails without being up on edge too much which wears my quads out. Hmmm, probably the 158 warpig to be honest, however if you're not a very strong rider it is alot of board to handle. The k2 party platter is slightly easier to ride and I think they do one in a 157 that might be worth looking at? Sorry for the lingwinded answer, long and short is probably this: if you're a decent rider the 158 warpig will accommodate your shoe size and weight well. Hey Martin, I think the 154 is gonna be fine for you. It takes a little bit of getting used to for the first day or so and then it feels awesome. If you're just starting out snowboarding or are still a beginner then you might want to go for the 151 as it will be slightly easier to turn. Or if you are mainly focused on jibbing in the park, spinning about on the piste, etc then the 151 will work too. Basically both will be fine, but the 154 will be more of an all mountain board and the 151 will be more playful at slow speeds but worse in powder, carving, going fast. The only thing I will say is that my board has now delaminated quite badly on the top sheet. This doesn't affect the ride, just the aesthetics. They replaced it once on warranty but not the second time. I've heard this is pretty common with the warpig boards.

@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore 4 жыл бұрын
The orca is definitely more of a powder board so if that's your main preference I would go for that. The orca isn't quite as wide and you don't size down as much as the Warpig, so for the Warpig I ride the 154 but the orca I would get the 156, or even the 159. I haven't actually ridden the orca but by the looks of it, it offers a slightly different ride. The ride Warpig is an all mountain board that has a twin feel, is great for carving around and hitting jumps, as well as making small turns. Whereas the orca will feel more like a traditional powder board just, a little more nimble, yet still really floaty. I would imagine it also carves well though. I can't say 100% but my advice would be Warpig for all mountain, and orca for powder. Probably a more comparable board to the Warpig would be the k2 party platter. Similar but a little more flexible therefore better for jibbing about on, but probably better than the Warpig in powder due to its larger nose.

It's not really the best beginner board to be honest, if you're looking for a volume shifted board a slightly easier one to get the hang of is the k2 party platter. For this or the warpig you'll want about 152 - 154 in size. Otherwise, as a beginner you might just be better getting a regular board to learn on, there are so many options, but just check you get the right size, something like the Salomon huck knife for example you would want the 159. And if you have big feet, get the wide version. But you have so many options from every brand that is just one example!

@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore Жыл бұрын
Hey Rob, that's a good question. Basically there's two answers. When he's learning he'll get away with a thinner board, because he'll never have it on that high of an edge angle, meaning even if his feet stick over the edge they won't catch as the board will remain relatively flat. However moving forward he will definitely need a wider board, because with feet that size a thinner board will eventually hamper his progress. But learning on a board that wide will be more difficult. So ideally you would want to learn in a rental board, get the basics down of being able to turn from one edge to another, and then move onto a wider board. If however you need to buy a board now to learn on and then use as you move forward I'm a little more unsure. Despite the fact it will be harder to get the basics down on, I still think it would be worth getting a board like the warpig that will serve him longer and allow him to properly ride in the future, but a thinner rental board at first definitely is the better solution. Hope this helps, sorry for the super long answer!

@malcolmmoore 3 жыл бұрын
For the warpig dont go above the 154, even if you put on another 10 pounds. As for a regular board you could go up to 160ish but it really just depends what you want it for. If you prefer riding fast, powder, and carving then a bigger board is generally better. But they are more tiring to ride on all day, and then not as fun in the park. So it is always a trade off, I used to always ride a 160 or 159 wide but recently have loved volume shifted boards such as the warpig and the dancehaul. They offer a more playful board that can still charge hard. That said I have gone back to a 160w for this season. But I have both now so can switch them up! Simple advice, pick something you think you'll enjoy, make sure its wide enough for your feet and that you fit in the weight range, but dont worry about your height, that's the least important factor of the 3.

If you like the idea of a volume shifted board with a tight sidecut and a centered stance like the Pigs you should check out Yes Optimistic :) Cambered, great on icy groomers and in powder. Con - like all tight sidecut boards it doesn’t like high speed long Euro carves. Otherwise hard to find some cons.

Yeah I looked at the Yes optimistic alot actually but could never find one on sale so I went for the Warpig. Just from an aesthetic standpoint I didn't really like the look of the tip and tail on the optimistic though, but I would still love to try it out!
