Ride With Me | Guided Cycling Around The Forest Of Bowland | Slaidburn, Dunsop Bridge & Whitewell
In this video, I’ll take you for a spin around the beautiful Forest of Bowland. Quiet B-roads, pretty villages and quaint tea rooms. Oh, and you can download the route in the description below.
Todays route is a 38 mile loop, and is known locally as The Villages. Along the way, we’ll take in Tosside, Slaidburn, Newton, Dunsop Bridge and Whitewell. With most of the villages having a little cafe to stop at.
I’m starting the route in Gisburn, because Gisburn is easy to find, has free parking, and you’ve got both a tea room and a pub to grab a well earned refreshment.
Because the route goes along the valley, we won’t have any monster climbs, but we will pass them. So, if the 100 climbs is your thing, stick around until

My grandad lived in Slaidburn almost his whole life. He would reminisce about cycling over Waddington Fell in war time to go to dances in Clitheroe then cycle back after. On a single fixed gear bike no less. I always said that was probably how he lived to 97.

Riding over Waddy Fell on a single fixed gear is impressive. I do it on a carbon fibre Pinarello with 22 gears, and I only just make it!!!

I work Monday and Tuesday in Fleetwood and bring my bike up to cycle in the Trough of Bowland on a Monday after work in the spring and summer. I have tackled most of the big climbs now and really enjoy riding in the area. It's generally quiet, apart from next to the river in the Trough sometimes. Stray sheep are also often waiting to jump out in front of you! Enjoyed the video.

It's a great little route, Phil. My advice would be Puddleduck's in Dunsop Bridge in the winter, and Riverbank Tearooms in Slaidburn in the summer months. Thanks for watching. Jon

Slaidburn is a great starting point for a gravel ride to Wray over Salter Fell.

I should ride the Trough from Dunsop to Lancaster some time. I've only ever ridden it the other way, which isn't too bad (although I never enjoy the climb up Jubilee Tower)

The climb up to Jubilee Tower from the north is a killer. The ride from Dunsop Bridge to Lancaster is amazing. However, that too has a few monsters along the way!!

Loved the content. Fantastic seeing some local(ish) scenery. Inn at Whitewell brought back some memories, I was best man at a wedding there many moons ago. Then you went on to mention the Spread Eagle, the scene of much merriment the weekend before. One quick question, what is that Dolan that you are on?

Must've been a posh wedding to be held at The Inn At Whitewell! The Spread Eagle, I used to live in Sawley. Beautiful village...... when it's not under a foot of water! I no longer live in the Ribble Valley, but did when I started the channel. Never got around to renaming it. The bike is the Dolan GXA. It's the 105 version with HUNT wheels. It's a great one, with some fantastic cafe's. Puddleducks is the best one. Oh, and you'll be able to tick off a few of your Simon Warren 100 climbs. The Trough of Bowland is a big player in the 100 climbs world 👍

It does indeed go to the reigning Monarch and its £millions. Dunsop Bridge is the geographical centre of Britain and the Crown owns 20,000 acres of it. The other one is Duchy of Cornwall.
