Fantastic, this kind of technology it´s simply amazing.

I love the larger one!

I have a Chicago Duplex engine like these, except that it's air cooled. It spent it's working life in a factory running a sewing machine.

I'm familiar with Chicago Duplex engines. They were more or less American-made copies of Heinrici engines but with air cooling. Do you have any documentation regarding its use in the factory with a sewing machine? That would be of interest to me as I'm researching this company's history. Thanks.

So what are these things technically? What cycle do they operate on? The Stirling cycle, the Ericsson cycle, or the Brayton cycle?

stirling cycle

Can anyone tell.me where I can get plans so I can build one of these? Maybe a bigger one for off grid.

What were these engines designed for? Water pumps? Thanks for the video!

They were designed as utility motors for small laboratory equipment, etc. Both have a small pulley on one flywheel. Heinrici made much larger models for driving small machinery, pumps, etc.

And the reason they are relics of the past is because it is less expensive to generate electricity and run an electric motor to replace this than the cost of running thing antique. Before widely distributed grid power was available this was the best option. Now grid electricity is cheaper and less polluting.

If not pump water though cycle couple pipes on side of engine to cool piston and tube or It will ruin Heinrici hot air engine cause if it get hotter it will lock up between piston and tube

Yes, but you can run these engines for short periods of time without the water cooling and without any damage. Water is not pumped for cooling but done passively by thermosiphoning. You can see this water cooling in my video of a much larger Amberg engine: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYG9ooVjapp6jas

Exactly, which is why I only run them for short periods without water.
