in 500 points the Beornings LL is one of the best lists. Absolutely brutal and a hard nut to crack. As we see with the bear saves,imo its a lil bit "OP" 6+ bear save would be ok . Anyway great report keep up the good work ladz!

Elliott I have a challenge for the next Batrep.... every suggestion Stephen makes you ignore and do the opposite 🙂 and see if you still win. [Seriously though Stephen your grasp of stats and strategy is amazing, can you do a video of you playing at a tournament - would love to see you up against other players/armies]

Enjoyed the video! I actually think 500 is the worst possible points value for the bears. Easily broken (kill 4 Beornings) and with only 7 models it’s hard to cap objectives. They’re better at 450 as it forces your opponent to at least kill one of the bears to break you or 600 which gives you 5 more dudes to play with.

I've played this match up. I called Death with Theoden, Eomer and Deorwine with a bunch of Royal Guard into Beorn. 2 Strikes, 1 Combat.. Won the fight, trapped him. Did enough wounds to kill him in one round, went straight into Grimbeorn.. killed him as well.. Game was kinda easy when it was 650 points worth of Rohan vs 8 Beornlings

Great report. 5+ saves fine. Just OP when someone rolls all 5s. Could just as easily rolled no 5-6s and died early.

At this point my stomach turns whenever I see bears on the table. How much might along with "Death" was pumped into Grimbeorn?? Shocking! Still a fantastic game, very enjoyable batrep (despite my nausea and worry for those horses throughout).

NGL was expecting Rohan to get absolutely munched, but that's more just my own personal experience speaking there (they've had a bad time around here), definitely a surprising result. Those bear saves were absolutely unreal (undecided how I feel in the 5+ vs. 6s needed debate), but at the same time, can't help but wonder if the bears wasted all of their 6s on the saves and that's why they couldn't get them in combat haha. Quick note regarding breaking btw: breaking is only calculated at the start of a turn, so basically you can't be broken on the final turn of the game unless you were already below 50% at the end of the prior turn. Didn't come into play in this instance, but you know, certainly could have the way the game played out, so something to keep in mind there.

Nah you can be broken at the end of the game even if you only broke on the final turn in terms of VPs. If it's in game you're right about only broken at the start of the turn but not for VPS, I believe there's an FAQ clarifying it

Hi Ryan! Absolutely agree, I thought it was going to be a bit rough for the Rohan given the monstrous charges but Elliot is very experienced and Jordan's fight dice were terrible! Liam below is correct, breaking VPs are awarded if you are below 50%, whether you checked for breaking at the start of the turn or not. You are correct about the start of the turn breaking though - lots of people mistake this and roll for game ending a turn early! ~Stephen

Has never come before in game for me, but have always functioned under the assumption that 'breaking happens at start of turn' = 'VPs for breaking are tallied at start of turn as well', seemed like the logical way it'd be handled. Definitely good to know, thanks for that!

@@anyheroics Yeah, the 'rolling for end of game too early' mistake is one that I feel is quite common, people don't realize you gotta wait on that one. Either way, for sure, I think even one turn of decent to good rolls for the two bears in combat would have potentially swung the whole thing with how much damage they can do, but the dice gods are quite fickle, and they certainly were in the Rohan camp for that game. Having been on the giving end of an absolute Rohan beatdown from similarly poor rolling on their part (broken by turn 3, ouch), good to see there's some balance there haha. Losing Gamling there at the end though, oof; very curious to see how the game would have gone had it gone on a little longer, he is essential for them in the late game.

Man this just really goes to show how busted the bears are. I do reckon Elliot made the right call in that first turn, just dice didnt go his way. But man, even playing the bears, what I would call, wrong (Jordans first game, I don't blame him, but the bears and beornings need to be played in a deathball) and even winning hardly any fights, they still where such a huge problem and near on impossible to bust through. -Liam

Dice never go my way sir:( But agreed I think they are very very forgiving to mistakes and no model (even Sauron or the Balrog) would have taken that much of a beating might wise etc. Only thing I would say that stops me calling them "busted" is it's so easy to win objective game modes by just killing beornings and breaking or 25% them so quickly ~Elliot

They're definitely beatable as they suffer on a few scenarios... They can also be very swingy if you roll badly once or twice! Agreed very strong though. ~Stephen
