Communites are being built around those stations out west. It is making its way towards downtown. What you see now is just the first phase.

Yea, 1992 I too remember too! it would have been a go back then but there was one more vote from a council person to vote and she had a threating phone call at her home in the evening to vote yes or else, next day she said I will not be threaten by anyone and voted no (she was thinking yes but this call change history for everyone for 30 more years to wait). I respected her for voting no, and standing up to the thugs. Too bad he was never brought to court like us just for not using our blinker..

If that story is true, it makes no sense. It's not a threat if she was planning on voting yes anyway. Sounds fishy and made up to cover her behind against voting no and setting back public infrastructure rail transit for decades. Imagine the system Hawaii would have by now if they had started 30 years ago? And it would have cost less to.

It goes to fast according to the old woman? That is nothing when compared to the F line in Queens, NYC during the Mad Men era of the 1960s when it ran express from Continental Avenue to Lexington Avenue in Manhattan and then became the 6th Avenue local to Rockefeller Center. That trains were built in the 1930s! 😁

Did the math recently based on projections- if I recall correctly it was $260,000 per linear foot. That's a lot of houses that could have been built for this major swindle that will not be paid for fully for many years to come.

Love to see a map of the route and stations,........ looks like a much better way of getting around than when I was there back in '71.... can you pick up the ride at the airport to downtown HNL ?...... be wonderful if one did not need a taxi to the hotels. THANK YOU for the video.

Unfortunately no. Airport station will open in 2031, goes from a field. between Kapolei and Ewa to the stadium at the moment. The last station planned opening in the last phase i believe stops near Chinatown. Open from 5am to 7pm

@ironolis airport is going to open in 2025 actually.... but the extension to town will not be finished until 2031, and the last station is ending at kakaako. It was cut short from Ala Moana.

Except that this line is grade separated and fully automated, unlike most light rail systems.

As many years it took and the problems now/later the rail will be well used. Especially, when it reaches Ala Moana. With that said, the majority of traffic comes out of Waianae and the rail is not a remedy. Should have used existing track out of Waianae to east kapolie rail station.

The rail is not going to ala moana, is set for the last stop to be around Chinatown. The second airport section does not open until 2031.
