Seriously, this song and game are both just incredible and wonderful. Ridge Racer 2 / Revolution succeeded in it's mission. The point of an acrade racing game is to give the player the feeling and exhilaration of driving in a nice car at high speed and beating the competition plus the clock. It hits all of that, but it also make you feel that same euphoric freedom that driving a car offers. No matter how crappy your life or day is going, you can still pop this game on and feel free and uplifted for just a fleeting moment. This title is one of the ultimate escapes. There's such a power and electricity to it just because of that. I wish Namco nowadays could have the same magic and pride in its arcade heritage that it use to have back in the day. Miss it.

@@1980dannya It wasn't my first, but it was an amazing experience for me as someone who crossed over from Sega to Sony. 1996 was truly a magical year in gaming and this was one of the reasons why that was the case. Namco really rose to the occasion and produced something that redefined and reinvented them while still being proud of the work they had done in the past. That can be said of the first three Tekken games as well. They made games that were pleasantly odd, quirky and just plain fun. It didn't matter how stereotypical the characters were or how cheesy the announcer was - they were classics then and they still are now.

The Namco Sound Team was amazing, Sanodg, AYA, Megaten, Okubo, all of them. True masters of the audio gear of that time. A distinct style deriving from rave and jungle music, Adrenaline pumping in its purest musical form. Perfect for a game that's easy to learn and hard to master. As I read in an EDGE magazine retrospective in Ridge Racer every track, racing or musical, is the perfect single.

Beautifully said. I think of these 13 seconds when I'm on the track with my motorcycle going wide open throttle on a long straight then hard brake, down shift, then turn in to get the perfect apex with knee down. Such a feeling.
