Thank you for this video. I’ve always been told you can’t adjust the die for hand threading, man am I glad I questioned it.

Nice video; I would recommend at some point in the video it should be stated "all chips, dirt, etc. be thoroughly removed from the Die Head, Dies, and Cover Plate prior to reassembly other wise the dies may slip out of position again".

I presume this procedure would be similar for all the other die heads made for the manual threaders? The other concern is the getting a well machined nipple with proper threads for adjustment - many of the big box and hardware store products are very poor in quality control for their threaded ends. Most folks don't have pipe thread gauges just hanging around the shop...

Does it matter how the top cover plate gos back on
I've had a hell of a time threading with Ridgid pipe dies and a Ridgid manual threading ratchet. Nothing I've done has resulted in usable threads. Setting the dies using known good threads, pushing the dies all the way in, all the way out, and halfway in between, brand new dies, old dies, etc. These dies just don't work. I've been very disappointed in Ridgid.

What are you using for a threader? I know this comment is a little old but I run quite a few ridgid threaders and do a lot of stainless threading so get a good test on machines. I find nothing beats the quick open carraige threaders but if you can find a 504 they work great for getting good threads. I have a brand new 12r threading set and find the threads aren't to great after 1". I usually use a 65r for anything 1-2". Getting a new set of stainless dies is a great investment as well.

Try using a good cutting oil, if your threads are tearing.

@@backroadsburner I solved it by learning to weld pressure vessel and just cutting a stub and welding it on whenever I need threads.
