At 6.7 amps and 45 pounds, with a capacity of a 100' of 3/8" Diameter Cable or 75' of 1/2" Diameter Cable, the K-400 is perfect for cleaning 1"-3" pipes of everything but roots. Thank you for the video, very useful information. I noticed you move to forward and reverse back and forth on the fly as pert of the operation without stopping the drum from spinning. Is that ok to do?
@robertrhodes20
@robertrhodes20 25 күн бұрын
Yes, the lever on it is meant to do that. Glance at the manual and you will see what I am saying because you do not use the actual forward and reverse button but only the handle lever that allows you to do so while working to go back and forth on a trouble spot when necessary.

Great video, thank you! I'm thinking about upgrading from a 3/8" to a 1/2" because I mostly use it for my main drains in my house. I'm also thinking about getting the autofeeder. I've been muscling it, and ya, it's not so much fun.

So I've been having some issues with getting the head past the p traps with this machine on 1 1/2 floor drains. I've used this machine for years on 3 1/2 cast iron floor drains with no issues, but can't get it to work well on 1 1/2 pvc floor drains. Rigid suggested I try using there drop down auger bit, which I ordered but haven't tried yet. Do you have any suggestions with using this machine on 1 1/2 pvc floor drains and getting it past the p trap without the head binding?
@robertrhodes20
@robertrhodes20 7 жыл бұрын
I do not. The drop down auger bit (auger with a bearing that lets it wander around at better angles than straight) looks good in theory. Curious how you rate the build of this bit ... if they go cheap on metal or bearings it will snap in short order I think. Wish I had more ideas for you. Anyone?

i know the question is old but even with 3/8 cable this machine does not excel in 1 1/2 pipe, especially in a ptrap. in 2 inch pipes im confident but 1 1/2 you cant hardly get it through a short turn 90, let alone a p trap

How do you clean the cable afterwards? With Home Depot rentals, I used to just pull all of the cable out, clean it and push it back manually. Does it work on K400? Would it be very strenuous? Any better ideas? Thanks.

I always kept a huge can of WD40 with the spray head (not straw) with the machine and would spray and soak the line with it after use. When you soak it, just rotate the barrel and you get good coverage. Also seemed to keep the amount of stuff that stuck to it down ... basically always greased. Does this help?

You have to feed it by tugging back or retracting with your hands feeding it about a foot at a time when you meet blockage you pull about an inch and slowly feed back then pull pack an inch and feed slowly there really is no measurement just your judgement

For sewet water collecting in drum, would it be wise to drill a small weephole in the drum?
@robertrhodes20
@robertrhodes20 3 жыл бұрын
You could but when it spins you would create sewer water rainbows and water would go everywhere ... and you better hope the hole ends up on the bottom. Better to lean it forward and dump it I think. I also keep a can of WD40 and spray it regularly when Im done ... after I clean it down. This works in my opinion.

Im afraid this is it, especially with the auto reverse. Get cheaper and you get what you pay for. The problem is Ridgid has a great reputation for plumbing equipment ... maybe someone who isn't selling a product has a different and valuable opinion on a comparable product that is cheaper?
