Well if you going to do a Part 4 with the cascade link, which would be awesome. Some of us are running the cascade, WRP yoke and mullet. With the coil maybe being the missing or final piece. So you may as well go all in haha 👌🏼

I just got the Evo Pro. 1st ride was at the bike park. Second ride today was trails with a lot of climbing. I could have bought a bunch of different bikes. I went with the Stumpy Evo because of the crazy adjustability. It's a great trail bike!

This shock out right makes the bike feel AMAZING!! Ever since I got my bike I knew a coil shock would just make it perfect feeling on the type of trails I like to ride but was bummed out to know no shock on my budget was compatible at the time but when this came out and announced its compatibility I blindly just bought it straight away. ZERO regrets!! im in love with it. thanks for doing this review, it just gave my the answer to finish my tunning setup for my shock! thanks

I just got this same shock installed on my bike recently and really noticed a difference in a positive way over my Fox Float X air shock I had. This thing just soaks things up so nicely

The cheap model of the fox float x came on my new Jekyll and that thing sucks .. and all I have is rebound adjustment and the climb switch.. on my e-bike I switch from the fox DPS to a rockshox ultimate coil and that was an insane increase in feel and performance

Recently picked up and installed the Cane Creek IL Valt coil. It is beyond amazing. I built up a new Trek Top Fuel. I’ve got a Pike ultimate up front at 130mm but the dps the frame came with was holding the bike back. Mike is right on, the top fuel feels more balanced and composed especially paired with the burlier fork. The 120 coil feels bottomless. Can’t recommend the coil enough

EXT does work. I ran one on my RS coil. It’s a super light SL spring so you will save some weight as well. Comes in 25lb increments i believe. The EXT office in the US helped me get the right one.

I have this shock on my SC Nomad V6. The HBO is amazing. Worlds better than my Fox DHX2 on my old Yeti 165. Never felt any bottom outs w 2 clicks of HBO till I came up short on a big boulder drop. I have 3 clicks and feels just as good w no bottoming out now.

Man Mike, I’m envious! I miss riding the PNW. Rode coil on all of my bikes since 1994 starting with my GT RTS2. Until my most recent purchased bike an intense carbine expert spec’d with DVO air. Coil is in my future.

@The Lost Co. I have the Alloy Elite with .8 of volume reduction in the Float X. I have 29-30% sag in the rear and still bottom the rear out. Can you talk specifically on progression in comparison to the float X. I simply don't understand how this bike could be ridden with a coil and still have enough bottom out resistance. Thanks.

Love the review. Can you elaborate a little on the theory of linear vs progressive frame suspension design and how it plays with coil spring which is linear? I heard stumpy is rather linear and therefore requires progressive spring

Gonna throw a cane creek db kitsuma coil on mine gonna screw around and post my discoveries. Thank you for the push. EDIT: 05/30 first ride on the coil was a night and day difference for the bike. Traction increase everywhere the kitsuma has an amazing climb switch that makes tricky climbs easier than the float x I'm open mode. When I pointed it downhill, I didn't feel the bottom out because of the progressivity gained from the progressive vault spring from cane creek. On a long sustained rock garden I felt way more control, more supple and more consistent rebound. If you have a stumpjumper/EVO/Levo and want to get a sick toolless adjustment shock look no further than the kitsuma

I have a carbon Stevo with cascade link, ohlins coil and a fox factory 38 with 170mm travel and it is friggen awesome. A beast of an enduro bike, that's fast, handles amazing and pedals well. Only downside (if you consider it a downside) is the added weight.. but then the weight makes it even better on the way down.. so sickkkk Also to note: the ohlins has a lockout (of sorts) so I get no pedal bob when pedalling

Having recently purchased an Evo frame, I am curious to see the real world difference between the stock, mullet, and Cascade links. I have also read where using spherical bushings on the shock is supposed to relieve some of the side loading stresses.

I watched your videos on the coil shock on the Stumpy Evo. I was interested in trying a coil on my 2021 Stumpy Evo also so I contacted my local bike shop to see what options they had because like you stated some shocks aren’t approved for this bike. The shop told me they contacted Specialized and they said not to run “any” coil shocks on this bike? No sure if the shop was correct or not. Thought I’d pass on the info.

What coil shocks work well with a Santa Cruz Megatower v2? So many overwhelming options with RS, Fox DHX2, Cane Creek Kitsuma, EXT Storia, MRP Hazzard, Ohlins TTX, etc.... I demoed the Super Deluxe Ultimate coil on my Megatower and really loved it! I'm debating buying a coil, and of course, which option if i do. Part of me says RS because it feels great and its easy to setup, and the slow climber in me wants a relatively lighter weight coil ie CC or EXT.

I think you can buy the WRP mullet yoke to retain the same rear suspension performance as the 29er set up. I've seen people use that yoke and the cascade link combo that seem to like it.

Having a coil on a specialized status 160 would that be the same as the stumpjumper evo.
@TheLostCo
@TheLostCo Жыл бұрын
Hey Immanuel! A coil on the Status 160 is definitely going to be different from the Stumpjumper Evo because they don't use the same shock stroke size or have the same amount of travel but the Status does have the progression to handle a coil shock! That same list of shocks that are compatible with the Stumpjumper Evo will also be compatible with your Status because they use a very similar yoke system to drive the shock. Hope that clears things up! -Tor

Would the older RS deluxe ultimate coil without HBO be also ok in this bike? Or is HBO necessary here since the leverage ratio of Stumpjumper evo is quite linear at the end of the stroke.
@TheLostCo
@TheLostCo Жыл бұрын
Hey Vaclav! I ran a coil shock on a Stumpjumper Evo without the HBO and had no issues with it! I did try running a progressive spring which helped bring the bike to life in the mid stroke, but it works just fine with a regular spring on a coil shock without the HBO! -Tor
