i remember before it got taken down, the comment section on animewave for this ova was full of people complaining that this was a bad gunsmith cats sequel...

I swear this OVA could be easily adapted into a live-action movie since it's essentially... a 1980s/1990s action flick in an anime form. I can see the Kung Fury guy taking up the role of Bean Bandit.

4:15 I found in some sources with additional info that say that "Buff" is short for "Buffalo". 4:51 Now that you mention it, holy sh*t! I saw that article and videos of it months ago when I was practice driving for parallel parking. By that time I moved on to other anime, I forgot about Riding Bean and the features of the Buff. Thanks for reminding me, man! 5:42 Or as KaiserBeamz put it: "Bean's Zenigata" 7:45 I concur. The OST is so good that when I played it for a period of time in the car, even my parents (mom especially) liked it! 10:05 He also sang the intro of Goof Troop (which I guess is enticing only to those who either are Disney fans, those who watched the show, or both). 12:07 If you are ever interested, this project by Sonoda is complete, and the most readily available source I found that is without payment is its inclusion in the free streaming service 9anime.

I just re-watched Riding Bean a few months ago and I agree with your assessment. The cars, the guns, the action...chef's kiss. And Bean's metahuman antics are just the icing on the cake 😂. 10/10 Would re-watch again and again.

My first comic com I went to in the late 80's had this anime playing at one of the tables. Was the first anime I bought on vhs. Remained my fave ova after all these decades.

This is so great. Anything to talk about Sonoda's work. The levels of detail he put into every car and gun make me proud to be an American. The painstaking care and attention into every bullet and magazine has never really been replicated. This was clearly done out of love. Unlike film, everything in animation is on purpose. It's not like they don't know everything that's going in front of the camera. Every frame is an actual painting. The sad part of this is that it also applies to all the perverted stuff in the classic Disney films...😕 Great video. Any clues about what you're thinking of next? I watched the Starship Troopers anime not long ago, and my friend turned me on to another mecha anime that takes place in the Votoms world. I forgot the name, but I'll find it later. Keep up the good work! 😃👍

Thank you! I have slowly been tackling Votoms for a while now and editing a script as I make it through. It has been a little daunting if I am honest lol. Might end up being a much longer video than I usually make by the time I get to the end! I am debating between a couple choices for the immediate future, including some well-known stuff like Slayers and Bubblegum Crisis but there are a few more "obscure" anime on the list as well. I did watch the Starship Troopers anime after your recent comment on one of my posts. I feel it's worth a video at some point as well.

@@VansAnime I love Bubblegum Crisis. The fact that it's remained untouched this long is a tragedy. When Hollywood is looking for strong female characters, they could do a lot worse than the Knight Sabers.

@@VansAnime I've heard it's in licensing Hell, where no one is saying who owns it, so that when money starts being spent, they can show up with their hands out. To me, the big advantage is that they aren't "Mary Sue" characters. They have to train, but their suits are intelligent as well. It honestly makes more sense than Battle Angel did, since they really had to rework the anime to give it a happy ending. Boo. I love that it ends on such a dark note.

Great OVA, too tired of videos talking about racism though, especially in the first minute when I just wanna watch a video about anime.
