lol it'd make an interesting video for Scotty to do his homework on this Skateboard only issue, come fully prepared, and actually go to a townhall meeting and make a case. At the end of the day just complaining to random people isn't going to change anything, SOMEBODY has to step up to the plate and force change. Because honestly, most of the people who currently have the power to actually change the bylaws probably don't even know about this silly rule and would vote for it to change upon being informed about it.

It's actually really easy to get this law changed. All they would need to do is put up a sign that says, "This premise is NOT always monitored, use at your own risk" Then there would need to be a warning of all the bad things that can happen to you. As long as there's nothing extremely dangerous and out of the ordinary, the city isn't liable for anything.

I've only seen indoor parks in Washington close, and some non-lit parks after like 10:00PM. I'm sure they do it for safety reasons. Remember, there are people in America that will sue you in to bankruptcy if they trip and fall on your driveway, they don't want people doing stupid shit and getting hurt and then trying to bankrupt the city. That's why it's probably only open when there is someone able to monitor what's going on. It's dumb, but it's also understandable.

I can't talk for America, since I'm from Australia, but nearly every single one of our skateparks aren't gated or manned. I have a feeling they close it due to vandals. Most of ours are tagged (lots of graffiti) and trashed, lots of littering etc.

Growing up, my town had two skate parks, both skate boards only. For the better part of a decade we would run from cops, sometimes twice a day. They told us to go to city council meetings, so we did. After going to meetings and many filed complaints to the parks & rec department, we learned that the the reason was they couldn't put a cap on the limit one could sue the city for because it's a bike. Jim Cielencki came to town and yelled over a crowd of groms "don't believe that shit!". One day the mayor showed up to invite us to a workshop and a year later we had a new 1.1 million dollar, bikes only concrete park! Now skaters and bikers use the three parks and the city has turned a blind eye. Thanks for the videos, Scotty!

Hey Scotty, I can see the pros and cons of allowing bikes into skateparks. As a skateboarder bikes follow different lines, you have much more metal around you and a bikes pegs have caused so many injuries to skateboarders over the years. Whilst I agree that there needs to be more skateparks for bikes sometimes having two different sports using the same facility at the one time can be a recipe for disaster. Snowboarders v Skiers is a similar thing as we all share the one mountain but they way we use it is different.

Scotty, you're the biggest inspiration for me and my friend to progress. we just started biking about 3 months ago after we started watching your videos. you should come to Wilmington and Newark Delaware, there's 4 or 5 parks within 20 minutes of each other, only one costs money and the rest are free and open every day, no rules against bikes. you should come down to Delaware and ride sometime!!!

Hey Scotty, I believe its the bureaucracy involved with the liability insurance companies that their (the township) laws require for places such as skateparks. I believe that is why some county's/towns/townships/cities have different laws/rules regarding what these designated areas can and can't be used for. In my city, bikes aren't allowed in the public skatepark but if you go to the next town they don't have that same limitation of usage.

I think the reason why most places don't allow bikes to ride is because of the finance part of it. I think bikes are more prone to break ramps because of the force behind it. I really wish more parks let in bikes so the progression of the sport can continue. i think skateparks are a big stepping stone in the creativity of the craft. hopefully freehold park and parks like it will open the door up for bikes one day!

We have the same problem at my local parks. Skate boards ok, roller blades ok, even scooters are ok.....but no bikes! We also have a bad lack in mountain bike parks, but an abundance of places to have them. Yeah we have trails, but that's not the type of riding I want. I watch Seth's Bike Hacks, and I envy him with the MTB Park he gets to ride!

The only safety issue i can think of would be. If skateboarders aren't used to bikes and scooters so they could get in each others way. I don't personally think it's a problem because other skate parks allow it. But it could be a concern for whoever runs the park. So like that guy said you would have to talk to the people in charge with evidence that everyone can get along fine.

Scotty, I know the feeling of not being able to bmx at the local skatepark. When the local park was in the process of being established the only people to show up to the meetings were the guys riding bmx bikes, I think there were always 8-10 of us there every single week. Long behold they didn't allow bmx bikes due to "insurance" purposes because "bmx bikes are faster than skateboards." It's kinda garbage but nothing I can do about it, just ride the park until you get kicked out. The park is actually no fun anyways all of the ramps are 3 feet tall, except for a 12 foot very quarter and cluttered in there, with no lines.

from what ive heard and researched (im from ireland i was just curious about the rule) its to do with warranty on the ramps etc they are insured for skateboarders so if a skateboarder breaks it, its cheaper or free to get fixed but if a bike breaks it, it voids the warranty
