This is how I built a riding car for my 7 1/2 inch gauge back yard railroad.
Check out www.etsy.com/shop/littlemount... for 3D printed detail parts and downloadable STL print files for rolling stock.

When I was learning to pray as a child I would ask God to bless the airplanes and the trains. I got over the airplanes. Where the hell are more train videos? Yours are fun and great! If you built your own locomotive then it would make a great video. More how to! Thanks!

Thanks for the comment John! Yeah, I still love the planes but going forward the channel will only be trains and related how to videos. I have a new train video in the works that I hope to have out in a week or two. Finishing up my little train puller loco is on the list too.

i have a 3d printer, and it looks like your couplers are 3d printed? so i was wondering if i could get the model for it or where you got it from. thanks

Awesome build! I love the cup holder, definitely something I'll have to add to my riding car! Seems like a sturdy and comfortable ride, and plenty strong too. Now, you say you don't have the equipment for a large metal project, does your locomotive also have a wooden frame?
@TheWeevilGenius
@TheWeevilGenius 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And yes, Loco frame is built up with 1/2 furniture ply which works great. In hindsight though, it really should have been 1/2 steel plate for maximum weight and traction. The small size of the loco really limits how much weight I can add to it.

How did you come up with the measurements im new to the hobby
@thomasthebasedengine3368
@thomasthebasedengine3368 3 жыл бұрын
I am new aswell, and I would say, the best advice and way to come up with measurements is to look up a reference image of what it is you want to make, and first and most importantly, get the size of the wheels, then scale everything based off of that, that's what I do and it really does help to know the wheels cause, like I said before, you can scale everything accordingly. That's what I do but just a suggestion. Hope this helps. God bless.

Nice! What is the longest legth train you run and does your engine brake the whole traIN or do any of your cars have brakes?? Also, whats a reliable source for aluminum rail? Thanks.

Is that coupler 3d printed? It looks like there are some layer lines on it.
@TheWeevilGenius
@TheWeevilGenius 3 жыл бұрын
Sure is! I did some research on how couplers work and put together a CAD model in Solid Works. Coupler is printed in ABS and works great.

Your printed parts look very well. I also have experimented with printed parts in 5". So i have made the trucks of my tender in a mixed manner: axleboxes, connecting rods and frames ar printed in ABS, the girders are in steel. A test run: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnrRe56Dn7eJgbs . I didn't try to make couplers this way. Did you encounter problems during driving?

Yes, from Cannon Ball trains. I bought them over a decade ago. Don't know if they are still available.
