I think Kyle should've gotten a 250cc before jumping higher, even the jump from 250 to 450; like they were saying they enjoy 2 strokes, So i'd get a bored out 250 an that will take him off lol. KTM’s 4-stroke 350 is where it’s at, besides Alta’s electric bike, that’s the one of the smoothest bike I’ve ever rode. Them Austrians know their shit. Personally a Honda guy myself cause poor. My brother raced a KTM 450 SX in the Vegas to Reno a few years in a row, almost won it but the electric starter went out 30 miles out from the finish, and as it was a supercross edition bike it didn’t have a kick start. Regardless, great bikes, engineering is damn near flawless. Huskies, too. Built in the same factory as KTM’s. Might be a tad biased cause I worked at a KTM dealer, though.

I would recommend also going to different dealers and sitting on different brands. The rider triangle (relationship between the bars, pegs, and your body) can feel quite different going brand to brand. You can always adjust and get used to it of course but It helps make a decision. All dirt bikes now a days are pretty amazing honestly. Each in their own ways have up's and down's of course. I hope you get one and love it man. Nothing like tossing a leg over a dirt bike for the day.

Like everyone has said. If you get a 250 2 stroke you are going to get hurt real fast. The power delivery is far from linear. Maybe a CRF250X which is a calm trail bike.
@kyleheckman3613 жыл бұрын
Woody, please read this! Firstly, DO NOT let Kyle buy a 450. Unless you are 350+ lbs, and know exactly what you are doing, stay FAR away from a 450 as possible. I've been in motorsports, and racing since I was 5 years old. I've owned a 450, and while they are a riot and a half... The best, full-size dirt bike to learn on is a 250 4 stroke, period, bar none. You will be faster on a 250f, more comfortable, and learn the fundamentals quicker, without wearing yourself out so quickly! Big power dirt bikes are a LOT less forgiving, and a modern 250f is probably a LOT faster than you think. 250 2 strokes are typically a handful, and 300's deliver 450 levels of power. Personally, a KTM/Husky/GasGas 350 4 stroke, and 300 2 stroke are my absolute favorite. While I may be just a no namer, if you would like further advice, or have questions, please reach out anytime!!

I have a crf250l I converted to supermoto, very fun bike but on the heavy side (given its weight is center well and carry’s itself well) it is very underpowered and has a fairly small gas tank. I’m very well familiar with riding dirt bikes and motorcycles and I’d have to say the crf250l would be your better bet if you’re looking to have the true dualsport experience. I ride mainly on the street and given my experience I would prefer a drz for the extra power. Both bike weigh the same -drz has more power - crf is better for trail riding

The only 2 stroke that you can street legal that I know of is Beta. It’s an Italian company, I have a 300rr 2 stroke and absolutely love it, and I have a plate in NY state of all place’s! It is a full blown hardcore dirtbike that they can get a title for in a backdoor way that ktm used to be able to do. Ps I also started on a drz400s

But a 250 won't lug anywhere near what a 300 will. I agree the 250 is a freer motor. My race bike is a 250. It's hands down my preferred bike for the more open mx/hate scrambles. But if I could only have one. It'd be the 300. It's not that much stiffer of a motor that it can't handle open tracks.
