QUODDY HEAD STATE PARK
Quoddy Head State Park is a state park located four miles off Maine State Route 189 in Lubec, Maine on the easternmost point of land in the continental United States. On its 541 acres (219 ha), purchased by the state in 1962, the park features 5 miles (8 km) of hiking trails, extensive forests, two bogs, diverse habitat for rare plants, and the striking, red-and-white striped lighthouse tower of West Quoddy Head Light.
In 1808, West Quoddy Head Light became the easternmost lighthouse in the United States. Its light and fog cannon warned mariners of Quoddy's dangerous cliffs, ledges, and Sail Rock. Among the first to use a fog bell and later a steam-powered foghorn, this lighthouse greatly reduced shipwrecks in this foggy area, even as shipping increased. In 1858, the present red-and-white tower replaced the original. Monitored and serviced by the United States Coast Guard, its light still shines through its original third-order Fresnel lens. After automation in 1988, the light station became part of adjacent Quoddy Head State Park. The tower is closed, but visitors are welcome to enjoy the lighthouse grounds and explore the visitor center and museum run by the West Quoddy Head Light Keepers Association.
BELFAST, MAINE HISTORY
The area was once territory of the Penobscot tribe of Abenaki Native Americans, which each summer visited the seashore to hunt for fish, shellfish and seafowl. In 1630, it became part of the Muscongus Patent, which granted rights for English trading posts with the Native Americans, especially for the lucrative fur trade. About 1720, General Samuel Waldo of Boston bought the Muscongus Patent, which had evolved into outright ownership of the land, and was thereafter known as the Waldo Patent.[5]
Waldo died in 1759, and his heirs would sell the plantation of Passagassawakeag (named after its river) to 35 Scots-Irish proprietors from Londonderry, New Hampshire. Renamed Belfast after Belfast, Northern Ireland, it was first settled in 1770, and incorporated as a town in 1773. The village was mostly abandoned during the Revolution while British forces occupied Bagaduce (now Castine).[6] The British military burned Belfast in 1779, then held it for five days in September 1814 during the War of 1812
LUBEC, MAINE
Lubec is the easternmost municipality in the contiguous United States (see Extreme points of the United States) and is the closest continental location to Africa in the United States.
Located on a peninsula overlooking an excellent ice-free harbor, the town was first settled about 1775. Originally part of Eastport, it was set off and incorporated on June 21, 1811, and named for Lübeck, Germany. Following the War of 1812, Lubec was the site of considerable smuggling trade in gypsum, although principal industries remained agriculture and fisheries. By 1859, there was a tannery, three gristmills and nine sawmills; by 1886, there were also two shipyards, three boatbuilders and three sailmakers.

I was playing KZbin roulette yesterday and discovered your trip to Alberta! They were most excellent videos, you caught the Rockies at their most magnificent!!!! I see you're doing it again in Maine - my technicolor dream trip. My mother was born in Newport Vt., so the call of America's Northeast is very real - so is my passion for lobster! LOL! You sing the praises and glory that is America, please allow me to sing my praises as well. America is, and I pray, continues to be the best friend Canada ever had!!!! Thanks for posting!!!! Thanks Darren & Jenny!!! We're incredibly grateful for the support from each and every one of you 2Laners out there! We always have an amazing time capturing these rides, and seeing the final product once it's all cooked up in Josh's lab makes it all worth it! He started making videos for the sole purpose of being able to look back and remember trips, and we started this channel for the same reason, as well as to share these amazing experiences with the world! We may or may not be in the works of something having to do with TV, so stay tuned!! We'll keep doin' our thing and you keep doin' yours! Thanks for the inspiration! Ride safe, and we'll see ya down the road.. 🤘🦅

Thanks for visiting up here in Maine and show casing our beautiful state. We have lots of fantastic riding and beautiful scenery here. Rt 3 is my daily commute and swings right by the homestead. The Penobscot Narrows Bridge that you went over has elevators in the towers that you can go up to the top for a nice view. Fort Knox sits to the left of the bridge and once guarded the entrance to the narrows. If you enjoyed the light houses and ever make it back to Maine, there is a lighthouse run that takes you up the coast to roughly ten light houses. Western Maine in to New Hampshire's White Mountains is also fantastic riding with incredible views. Another wonderful episode! Thanks for showing us America on 2 wheels.

Just found you guys. When I saw you were riding in my neighborhood in New England (I'm from northern NH) so I had to check you out. Nice videos and looking forward to watching some of your older ones. I'm very surprised you go up to Belfast and don't keep going to Bar Harbor! The #1 reason to go to Maine is to go to Bar Harbor and ride Acadia National Park. If you haven't been there you haven't been to Maine. Still you didn't disappoint with your take on our area and the places you stopped. Fun stuff. Why is it I'm always hungry after watching an episode???? LMAO

@@2LaneLife I made my comment before I finish the video and saw you went up to MA-CHI-US (Machias). Still laughing at your pronunciation. Sorry. It is a tough one to get down how to say it. I understand the time limit. Having ridden all over this country myself you do have to make difficult decisions sometimes as this is a big country. I never knew that lighthouse had that marker being "the most eastern point in the US". We always accepted the claim by the town of East Port as being the most eastern point. After peeking at the map a little closer Quoddy looks more east. I'll have to check that out. Very interesting. I admit we take our surroundings for granted as we see them every day, then folks like yourself come and educate us because you do some research. The house I live in was built in 1840. So old houses are every day for us. You are now one of my top channels for sure. I'll have to tell my riding buddies some of whom are from Maine.

I greatly enjoy your videos and the places you visit. I have been all across the country on my bike and it was wonderful to see them again through your videos. I just wish as responsible riders you would demonstrate proper riding skills and use a staggered riding formation. At least that is what I learned in my riding classes…Thanks.

Hey there Jim, thanks for watching! We're glad you'r enjoying the vids and travels. The 2 of us have been riding together for 10+ years and are very comfortable with different riding formations whether staggered or parallel, and know each other's riding body language to a T. On densely populated roads and or high speeds, we ride staggered, but with proper communication, we feel just as safe in various formations. Thanks for looking out
