A couple of years ago I visited the Cinder Track too and me and friend wild camped in the woods at Hayburn Wyke. If you've never been its always worth the detour as there's a secluded golden beach complete with waterfall!

This whole series is amazing. Many presenters spend too much time filling the screen with their faces but this series focuses on the route and shots of the other cyclists. The commentary is perfect, low key, informative and peaceful. The background music is a bit repetitive, I'd have been happier with silence or just the sound of the countryside and bike wheels but that is nit-picking really. Than you so much.

The first time I'd cycled this route I was on a tour so didn't take time to appreciate the views, but on the return leg to York it was an absolute pleasure. you must keep a eye out for wildlife I had a potentially risky encounter with a deer on the trail near Ravenscar
@CycleroutesInfo7 жыл бұрын
It is a great route isn't it Dion, did you follow the Way of the Roses from York to Bridlington and then head up to Scarborough and Whitby, or did you do something more direct?
@dioncrouch38977 жыл бұрын

I've done this in two stages: one day northwards from Ravenscar to Whitby and back, then another evening southwards from Ravenscar to somewhere near Cloughton and back. I still need to do the final section from there to Scarborough. South from Ravenscar the surface is good, and gradients are fairly gentle. North from Ravenscar there are some rocky sections, particularly on the tough climb from Robin Hood's Bay to Ravenscar at the end of the ride, after earlier trying to cycle along the beach from Whitby to Sandsend which was energy-sapping! It's a shame that the section of railway line north of Whitby closed earlier than the rest and so was sold off for housing, and with bridges demolished, because it would have been a fantastic ride across the golf course, alongside the beach, over the two viaducts at Sandsend and then past the disused alum works to Sandsend tunnels, emerging onto the cliff-side ledge briefly between the two befoer continuing to Goldsborough and Staithes viaduct. But that section will have to be imagined - apart from the section from Sandsend station to the mouth of the southern tunnel which can be walked. I know what shane fitzsimons means about the music!

Thanks for your comments and feedback, we are up this way again in November, so I may go and check out the walk near Sandsend.

@ryanparker49962 жыл бұрын
@@michaelsMW2movies Im not the originak commentor, but I see your question so Ill helo you out. Im in my late twenties, in reasonable shape, and a full round trip from Whitby to Scarborough, and back again, takes me around 4-5 hours including stops for photography and exploring various remnants along the line. A more competitive cyclist could maybe shorten that to ~3 hours but I like to soak in the scenery 😁

Great video. It was lovely to see what it actually looked like. 3 of us did this for the 1st time last November but due to delays getting to Scarborough we didn't leave til dusk and so did a majority of it for the 1st time in the pitch dark which on the Ravencar to RHB section was on the exciting side of interesting :) Only changes I'd make the 2nd time I do this run is 1) Do it in daylight and 2) Take my Orange 5 and not a 100mm front travel hardtail. :)

I think to be comfortable 28mm is a minimum. When we rode it the last time, we did it on the XC bikes again, but in severe weather. Although the ride was comfortable, and wet due to torrential rain, we still suffered a few punctures due to the debris on the surface of the trail. Steve

Hi Martin we have, but not by design, the route goes from Derbyshire to Cumbria. It uses some parts of trails or routes we have ridden over or along, for example, The High Peak and Tissington Trail in Derbyshire, Carsington Water, Ridden the TPT around Penistone and the Longdendale Trail. I have visited the Sett Valley Trail and Diggle. We have also visited Cumbria on a few occasions using various routes. Steve

The surface quality varies along the route but I would say it's fairly bad.
@CycleroutesInfo6 жыл бұрын
How bad the surface is is relative, its not as smooth as a road, even a very bad one with huge pot holes, however it isn't as bad as riding out on a MTB trail in the Peak district. I would say it is like the wose sections of the TPT, we rode it again recently in June in heavy rain, it was like riding through a river most of the day. Here is the route we used in June, www.strava.com/activities/1613890135 based on the moors and shores event.
