The Ducati 916 is one of the most iconic superbikes ever, and the SPS takes it to another level. I spent two glorious summer days capturing its beauty in stunning 4K to finally do this masterpiece justice. Check it out and tell me what you think! 😊 kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWTWeKFsfNqrjcU

Great video. Made me laugh. I owned a pristine 916 for about 8 years. I rode for a bit then disconnected the lights, taped them up and tracked it for about 5 years. The race tires lasted for 3 track days, and then were toast. I have never bonded with a bike like that, and have owned many. The faster you ride it, the better it handles. People thought I was nuts to ride a perfect 916 at the track, but I never crashed. My abilities eventually declined as I aged, and I hung up the track days. I sold it years ago, but the memories I will cherish always.

Great story! I've also never bonded with any bike like with the 916s. For me it started with a 998 - fantastic machine. Unfortunately, I did crash it though 😕 But god forbid I'll ever crash this SPS!

That's one of the nicest 916's I've ever seen! Hang on to it cuz it's already worth a small fortune.

I will! I was actually looking for 1997 version because I prefer the graphics on that one, but then I learned a fried had this one and was blown away. Love at first sight 😍

@@DonnieDesmo everything you joked about but way more analytical - I’ve had an SP3 for 13 years and it was in bad shape when I got it, rebuilt it over a two year period and changed almost every part - loved it so much and ride it daily, it shut off on Sepang F1 Circuit and I’ve been kind of mad at it since then. Long story only 916 owners would get. Imagine one video for each scenario you mentioned.

@@alexanderpatterson6316 SP3, nice! It shut off while on track? What was the reason?

@@DonnieDesmo okay I can see you actually care and relate. Nice to meet you. The bike has given me a feeling nothing else can, it’s so raw, visceral and analogue. You can ride with modern superbikes and not be that far behind. So as a daily rider and also track bike I used it hard and expected much of it, but I serviced it monthly and it’s absolutely filled with modern parts. Anyway it’s a lot of commitment to use it this way, I have multiple tow truck guys and on a first name basis with parts man. My theory was there has to be en ending to the cost - if I keep putting more into it, it will be like new, right? Last major trip, bike is trucked to Sepang, I fly in, new tyres, oil etc, did 4 laps on day 1 of 2 and she shuts off. All my mechanics (3) don’t know why. So I fly home. Forgot what the issue was specifically but that broke my heart. Runs great now but we have to understand it’s an Italian bike from the 90s and has to be treated that way. Not for everyone to say the least. I let her sit now for 2 years and am thinking of doing the unthinkable - rebuild #2. But for the moment, she’s retired and moved to the permanent collection. Let’s hear more of your story. Best to you.

@@alexanderpatterson6316 I think taking a 916 to the track regularly really challenges the bike. Just for normal use the maintenance intervals are pretty tight already. I had a 998 on track several times and was very happy with it. In the end I crashed it too many times, but I'd say it was always due to 0rider error. I think the testastretta is more reliable than the desmoquattro. Not even talking about electronics since it is like you said: Italian and from the 90s 😁 I will post more for sure, best to you too.

I own a 748 and wanna know what I really do with my Ducati? Nothing. It just stands in the back of the shed. In the past I did everything. Foreign roadtrips, trackdays, hooligan summer rides. Even commuting. Now it's just gathering dust and waiting for some new belts...I just got fed up with the insane maintenance bills and the torturous ergonomics. My other motorcycles are either faster/ more comfortable or simply more reliable. I can't get myself to sell my dream bike. But I'm not really sure what else I should do with it.
