“Why did they have to modernize this elevator?” AGREED! I loved those elevators when they had the lights on the outside and they had the fountains around them instead of those stupid planters! When you descended, you felt like you were plunging into the fountain itself, and (for me, anyway) the lights on it gave it a feel like being on Willy Wonka’s Great Glass Elevator. And the best part was that if my sister and I behaved during a trip to White Flint, one of the treats we got was being able to ride in the elevator from the first floor to the top floor and back BY OURSELVES (while our parents watched from the ground level, of course!). RIP White Flint Mall.

Interesting fact: The third floor used to be a restaurant made to look like Georgetown in DC. There was a 4th floor not on the panel that went to a kitchen apartment which was partially on the roof. The servers would bring the food down on the elevator to the third floor. There was also a dance floor. This was all removed during the renovation for D&B. I was security there for many years up until 2011. Just thought you might find this interesting.

All that's left of White Flint Mall is Lord & Taylor
