Riding the Pittsburgh 'T' Light Rail Lines

Hey guys! Got another city transit system for y'all today! In this video, I take a journey on the Pittsburgh "T" Light Rail from Library to various destinations downtown. The T system has 2 currently operating lines (Red and Blue) which run from the North Shore to Library and South Hills Village in the South Side. I've been taking this light rail for years now and it really is a pretty nice little system. I think a major expansion to areas like Pittsburgh International Airport and points north and east are desperately needed and would be much better than bus. But, money is needed and obviously there is none. Hope you guys enjoy!

I can't believe you were able to get what looked like a vehicle without any lights on inside, I'm so jealous!! I mean it's not that I expect anything life altering to be visible inside the tunnels, but it would still be lovely to have a view unobstructed by the vehicle's internal lights out the window while inside the tunnels, especially when passing the old Gateway Center station!

I'm from Philly, but I live in Baltimore. I watched a video from 1989 about your streetcar line that shared your light rail tracks into the underground. Thanks for sharing that the streetcar Trolleys (PCC model streetcars) are no longer used. Good video.

Accidentally drove my car through the Mt. Washington tunnel last time I visited Pittsburgh. It was late at night and by the time I saw the signage indicating it was for transit vehicles only it wasn't practical to turn back. Thankfully there were no cops on either end.

Great video. Thank you for posting it. I can remember riding the old trolley cars on street level downtown back in the 60s and 70s. They used to rock back and forth like crazy (when they weren't stuck in traffic, that is). What a change!

I always thought light rail stations 🚉 were just outside parking stops for the train but they actually have an underground system with real STATIONS 🚉 AMAZING!

Probably easier said than done but it looks like the Green line from Carnegie could connect to the Allegheny station on paper through Sheraden. A train to PIT airport would cost BILLIONS since it is so far away from town but would be awesome. Great video!

Very nice. It's been thirty years since I made the same ride. The library shuttle was a PCC. and Gateway wad a loop and the end of the line downtown. I have risen the T since, just not the entire red line. It's a nice system. Thank you.

I love the Trolley! I lived in Pittsburgh for 23 years now I live in Jersey. I do miss taking the trolley. I try to take it when I come to visit friends and family!
