You can do anything that is not expressly prohibited in China, you can take photos, you can film the police. Unless they tell you on the spot that you can't take pictures. . Besides, you are too nervous. It's like an adventure, not like a journey. You should think that China is very illiberal. In fact, anything short of not being able to vote is freer than in Australia. It's time for you to relax and experience true freedom. . You can even have a beer on the street. This is not illegal, of course. . You also don’t need to worry about Chinese police asking you for money. They dare not do this. I promise

As a Chinese, I have some tips for you guys: 1、 On a high speed rail, you can actually order foods from restaurants near the next station, and they will be sent on the train when it arrives. And don't buy any food on the high speed rail, even we locals think those prices are ridiculous. We usually bring our own foods. 2、 Usually we don't eat at those restaurants in the train stations or airports, they are 50% more expensive than their counterparts outside. 3、 If you really need help, you better ask people at the age around 20 or 30, most of them speak at least a little bit of English. Most of the older generation people do not speak any English at all.

A friendly reminder from a Chinese person: If it's not necessary, don't buy anything at the station, airport, or train. It will be much more expensive than shopping malls. This time is a Chinese holiday, and there will be many people traveling and returning to their hometown to visit relatives. It is recommended that foreign friends miss the peak flow period to travel

The china and Indonesia built HST line started from 2016 and started to run recently with a $7 billion price tag at 350 KM per hour with total length of 147 KMS, it’s the first HST running at 350KMS/H in southern sphere, but China itself has opened 4 HSR lines last month with each is over 200 KMS including a HST crossing oversea line in Fujian province with total length of 277 KMS, China has 42000 KMs of HST by the end end of 2022 and will reach 70000 KMS by 2030, so they are building 3000 KMS more of HST line every year, its still a work in process, while starting with the Japanese Tokaido Shinkansen (515.4 km; 320.3 mi) in 1964, their network has expanded to currently consist of 2,830.6 km (1,758.9 mi) of lines with maximum speeds of 240-320 km/h (150-200 mph) only, 1 year of Chinese HST line construction is longer than what Japan has built over the last 60 years, yet, the current China hosted Asia games has cost $30 billion dollars, enough to build 4 Indonesian HST lines and built almost 5 more Fujian aircraft carrier.

Amazing train! Would like to ride on this one day. Wish we had such trains in the US but the oil lobby is just too strong. US is one country that could greatly benefit from HSR because it is a huge country and has sufficient number of people to make it economically viable. instead of HSR, we have Amtrak with 50+ year old coaches (except for the Acela) rattling along at 60 to 90 mph.

Edit: You can actually order takeaway from off the train for them to deliver it to you in the next stop :D But only if you have their takeaway apps and we-chat to pay :D Also, you will have more space if you tried business class on the HSR's too :D

I doubt Australia's population is large enough to support a high-speed rail line. The two largest cities have a total population of only 10 million, but are more than 800 kilometers apart. Especially considering that the Australian government will not choose China as the contractor, the cost per kilometer may be more than double that of the Indonesian high-speed rail.

In the bustling areas of Shanghai, the cost of living is high, and prices can be quite astonishing. Therefore, if you find it expensive, you can always consider exploring other places. If you feel that the seating on the high-speed train is not spacious enough, it may be because you purchased a second-class ticket. If necessary, you can opt for a first-class ticket or even a business-class ticket, and the environment will be much better.

Great to see your videos for the first time. Come to Hong Kong to see where “East meets West”. It’s best to come in autumn and winter seasons when it’s less humid.

hey Josie nice videos. I have been here (shanghai) for over a decade now. I have never travelled with these bullet trains because most of my travels are business trips and they always let me fly. But i do know some about these trains cuz a lot of people i know have travelled extensively with them. Regarding the small seats and tight space you mentioned: these bullet trains offer different "classes" just like airliners have first class, business and economy, and they call that 1st class, 2nd class, etc., and apparently you pay differently for the tickets. I have heard if you buy a 1st class you get huge seats that can be fully reclined and very roomy leg space and even offer adjustable foot rest - the same like the 1st class airplane seats. And they have different food/beverage menus for different classes too. I've heard people who travelled with 1st or 2nd class couldn't stop talking about it. However i have also been told although they are all bullet trains on the timetable and you buy a same class ticket, you may find with the same 1st/2nd class cars, different trains may vastly vary on how they're equipped, for instance you may have very roomy leg space but you just get a basic foot rest, while some may have LCD on the back of the front seats with which you can watch movies. But of course you will also find the tickets cost differently for a same class on your trains schedules.

The price of high speed train in China is generally defined by the distance between the two stations and the average speed. It's about 1300km between Beijing South Railway Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station. So the price is a little bit higher 😄

if you want a better experience, you can buy the first class seat, but that will cost twice as much as the second class seat(the kind in this video). Of all the trains , the FuXing trail is the most comfortable one, and commercial seat is the most expensive(sometimes equal to the flight ticket)

Totally! $170 for this seat was already stretching my budget, though. One day hopefully I’d like to be able to afford first class in every bit of transport I take 😂😂😂🙏🏻

Your experience is what I felt moving from China to Europe......everything seems so fresh and exciting, meanwhile the language barrier makes things more difficult....while it's really cool and fresh experience. Just like new born...
