Loved this Rhi! As a nearly 22-year-old just getting back into riding and still dreaming of my own horse, it's so refreshing to see someone in a similar situation! So many (grown-up) horsey KZbinrs have had horses since they were kids, or have had them a while and are settled, so it's so good to be able to see a situation that reflects my own (and also helps keep the hope alive that one day it WILL happen - I just have to keep working hard to get it!)

Thank you Jane! It's definitely possible and it's also not the only option on the table if you want horses in your life. I always try to hammer that home ☺️❤️💪🏻

I just have to say I love your videos! Its really refreshing to watch someone who is realistic and talks honestly about the intricacies about building up to horse ownership and now horse ownership! Your excitement about Woody and the whole process is really lovely! We have 1 horse and 1 pony (my daughters) and I am currently saving for my own! The other two have kinda of turned up for us over the years so I’ll be the first to actually go on the venture properly! And I can’t wait! Just need to finish off the cash pot lol xx

Love the q and a session - lots resonating with our search for a baby - for me it was realising I was playing assassins creed to basically ride around on horsies 😂

Woody is so lovely. Just watched your video where you took a tumble. Live in the US - and your riding areas look wonderful. What I needed was a grandma horse!! My favorite horse purchase was the lesson horse I rode for a year. Thank you for the down to earth videos.

On the topic of horse games..I find myself playing online horse games regardless of my break from riding. Star stable is a fun one (which has a large community including many older players). I used to take lessons in real life but I found that that is not enough for me personally, and the horses I got to ride occasionally hindered my riding altogether. As I wait to get my own, I enjoy the community and story that some horse games have. Then again I've always been a gamer, even at 26 years old now haha

I think something people need to plan for is what to do if your horse was to become unsound and no longer rideable. When doing your horse buying budget, did you budget for providing your horse with transport? Confession. Haven't ridden properly since 2009. Still own a difficult horse. He's currently out in the paddock with my retired Highland Pony who is a supreme baby sitter. Look forward to your fifties. I am fifty seven.
@RidingWithRhi3 жыл бұрын
I did budget for the purchase, vetting and transport home yes. And yes, I think the moment you get your horse you need to be considering your retirement plan and knowing that this may come earlier than expected.

You should totally try 24/7 turnout! I tried it with my TB who struggles with his weight but it's actually helped him maintain it. He's so much more chilled and happy, of course, it doesn't work with every horse but it's definitely worth a try!

I'm turning 22 in a couple of weeks and it's so reassuring to hear some of the things you were saying on that last question! Re Woody's pink skin, maybe you could turn him out at night? Great video :))

Yes! I was thinking about night turnout too (also less flies!) x

Be super careful with pink skin and 24/7 turn out. Pink skin paints are prone to skin cancer (my paint mare struggles with skin cancer) but truthfully as long as he’s covered in a uv rug and has sunscreen on he should safe.
@RidingWithRhi3 жыл бұрын
Yes this is my worry! 😖 he does have a brilliant Rambo Protector fly rug with UV protection and a fly mask with brilliant UV protection too but it does worry me still ❤️

I am both lucky and unlucky. My horse is mostly retired but I get to ride my friends lesson horse so I can not ride for 3 weeks and she's still extremely fit BUT she's ridden by small children and her skills tend to deteriorate.
