The scenery is spectacular! I was fortunate to ride the narrow gauge train from Durango to Silverton in June, 1968. It was a great trip too. I noticed that many places along the road did not have guard rails. It reminded of the time my grandfather was riding in a car that his nephew was driving. We were going on similar roads in California. My grandfather remarked that there were no guard rails. His nephew said "Guard rails are for sissies."

Thank you for letting us ride shotgun in beautiful country. I really needed some time in the high country. I guess one good thing about this pandemic is that it's cut down on the tourist traffic, but that's a double edge sword for those who depend on the visitor $. Stay safe

I had forgotten how beautiful that stretch of road is. And didn’t realize how tense I have been until a few minutes in and all those mountains and trees and blue skies bought some needed peace. Until......the high approach to Silverton. Glad you had the wheel because I started to hold my breath a bit near those drop offs. Like that was going to help😋

Thanks, trying to identify where I camped out, Little Molas Lake just after the pass. Free campground and I'm asking around "where do I pay"? Pretty cold that night - think that was in September - wearing my clothes in my sleeping bag but fantastic starry sky that night. 'course, not sleeping much didn't help my nerves going over Red Mt. the next day. (a little coffee at the gas station where you turn off left to go north in Silverton did)
