Hey Dave just a tip. Those latches on your trailer that have that rectangular loop on them. You're meant to feed the long ovular chain link under them first before threading it over the vertical bar. That way it locks in and can't slip up and off. If you don't do that it's extremely easy for that style to pop off. There's even a little instructional diagram right above the latch.

The nice thing about doing local/dedicated/regional home weekly routes, is you get used to your routes you learn where everything is, all the little spots to park at and eat. Also the engine brake signs don't apply to the quiet ones, so you're fine to use them. The best part too, is you learn and get to know all your customers, and once you start learning all the customers you know exactly where you are, how to tackle them, and how to handle the tight spaces.

Glad your back trucking Dave. One tip on 90° backing. When doing your approach, keep your trailer tightet against the object your gonna back around. Example - the trailer at the receivers dock and the point on the street where their driveway & road met. Both backs you were tight up against objects on the right.( fence & curb ) keep that trailer over more to the left and you'll have more swing room for the tractor with less risk of hitting the fence or curb as in this video. More room = less stress. Just a tip. Keep on making the videos. There fun to watch!👍👊

There was a tighter dock than that at this dumpy joint in Vineland, New Germany, err, Jersey , that I could not back into to save my life, it was a blind side backing job, with just 1 dock with a trailer in the other door, it had a mud pit forward of the backing zone, you could see where rigs got stuck in the mud from previous attempts, I could only get the trailer half way in the door, but was only a few pallets and I had a pallet Jack on board, so they loaded the freight on the tail and loaded the rest onboard, not really a big deal. I was LTL in a day cab, i was embarrassed BUT I didn’t get stuck in the mud nor hit anything, I couldn’t imagine getting your sleep cab in there, it was insane, the only dock that I couldn’t back into correctly, ever. Happy trails driver.

Nice backs Dave! My first three days at Tyson Foods, I had to street-back into a food donation place that was conveniently located off a small residential street with a lot of pedestrians walking around. And it had a tight 20-foot-wide gate. "We get trucks in here all the time!" Yeah, box trucks! That really tested my mettle, my audience kept saying "ain't no way!" but I got her in there. When in doubt, go long! Hope you're enjoying the Volvo, I quite like mine.

Easiest way to do that is swing your tractor IN to the open spots, swing back out and wrap your tractor to the LEFT hugging those cages and pallets, then do a 90 into the dock and it’ll leave room to straighten out. That avoids having to be so close to the right hand side. I delivered dollar general all over for a year without a day cab. Ran into every back there is lol. This was good tho. You’re adjusting to the Volvo alright ? My personal opinion is the KW is nicer, higher quality but the Volvo’s are “easy to drive” as some say. Short wheelbase, good visibility and big mirrors and good comfort. You’ll bang your knee OFTEN until you get accustomed to it. They are generally reliable to about 5-600k miles but then get away from them 😊
