Thanks for the video! I'm looking at moving to Surrey soon and would like to find a horse to share so this information is really useful. :)

My pleasure! If you haven’t yet seen it (and if you are looking at full loans too) I did a video on the costs of horses monthly + into detail on livery prices in Surrey/London for 5-day, assisted DIY and DIY: kzbin.info/www/bejne/emrHlYerjtakmdU

Thank you very useful as im seaching for a part loan but i cant really find what im looking for and also me and my family are always quie busy but i will definitely use the websites you recommended
@RidingWithRhi4 жыл бұрын
It's not easy! Before I found that list of 4 i saw so many that just weren't the right fit for me. I would say that even though it's tempting, don't rush it because you want to get back riding! Make sure you spend the time to find the right horse. You might also find that there are more horses after the lockdown - everyone is at home at the moment which means some people who might usually have a sharer don't need one at the moment, but they might in a few months.

@Elsie Brett 100% great advice. Ask ALL the questions, even the ones you feel like you'll be 'judged' for asking. A great owner won't care - they'll appreciate your thoughtfulness.

When you loan u still take the horse or pony to shows although it isn’t fully urs?
@RidingWithRhi4 жыл бұрын
Usually yes, but it is up to the owner. Most owners would be totally fine with it as long as you ask for permission :)

Well Ted is 16.1hh so that's 163cm. 13.1hh would be a middle-sized pony, approx 133cm. Ponies go up to 14.2hh and after they are classed as a horse.

In the least nosy way possible, how did you know when you could afford a share and would have the time for a share etc? I graduate from uni soon and will be look for a share but I worry with the cost and costs for other everyday things. Plus time with working etc.
@RidingWithRhi4 жыл бұрын
Well, sharing is significantly cheaper than full-loan or buying a horse (see my costs + contracts video for detail if you haven’t already seen) and I had already budgeted the cost into my monthly expenses so I knew I could afford it. As for time, shares range from 1-2 days a week to many. Mine is 3 days a week and I know that on those 3 days I make time for the horse. If I am away or absolutely can’t come, I let the owners know (at least a week in advance) and swap or forgo my days for that week. In essence, you need to look at your monthly outgoings and see if you could realistically afford it and then if so, find a share with a number of days you are comfortable with. As with anything, it’s a commitment but if you plan + are enthusiastic about it, you’ll find that it fits into your week nicely and you enjoy it! If not, perhaps sharing isn’t for you and that’s ok! There are tonnes of other ways to enjoy horses such as lessons, pony days etc. I hope that helps !

I’m going to view a part loan horse today but my anxiety is sky high. Do you have any tips on viewing with anxiety?
@RidingWithRhi4 жыл бұрын
Congratulations! It's ok to be nervous and it's ok to say that when you get there, by the way. I was so nervous when I went to see Ted and I made a joke about messing up in front of the owners. It made me laugh and made them laugh and helped lighten the mood. Let them set the pace and ride first etc and don't do anything you're not comfortable with. It's ok to say 'I would love to just do walk, trot and canter today, but do you think I could come back another time to try jumping?" or whatever the case may be. You might find that once you are on the horse and have had a little walk, you relax. Whatever you do, take your time. Take it in and don't rush. The right owner will respect your decision to take it all in and take time to think about it. Ask lots of questions and don't feel pressured to make any decisions on the spot. Take a few days and feel free to ask to visit again. Listen to your gut too, not every situation or yard suits every person and that's ok. It's more important to take longer finding the right horse than to go fast and get the wrong one. Enjoy it!

You got this!! Take it step by step, take a breath. You are human and it's ok to say you are a bit nervous. You know how to ride but the situation is scary, of course it is. It doesn't make you less of a rider. Let me know how you get on!

Can u pls do a how to convince ur parents to let u share or loan?
@RidingWithRhi4 жыл бұрын
I have thought about this but it’s a really difficult one. For one, I never managed to do that. I never had horses of my own as a child and I’m 26 now so I pay for ted myself, not my parents. It’s hard because as much as you can show that you are responsible and can look after a horse, it’ll be your parents paying for your share, not you and horses are expensive. I can certainly talk about things you should consider as conversation topics with you parents to start talking about the possibility of getting a share, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable giving “tactics” on convincing your parents to get you a horse because I don’t want anyone’s parents feeling guilt / pressure if they simply can’t afford it or don’t want to. I hope that makes sense?
@amrixah4 жыл бұрын
Yes it does make sense and it would be very appreciated if you could make that vid. ☺️

Hi. Thank you for the video. I’m just wondering, as someone who is a beginner/novice, can you still loan a horse? Thanks. ☺️
@blihasmoreswagthanu48923 жыл бұрын
Hi :D I’m really late so you might already have an answer but just in case you still want an answer I’ll help :) Most yards say you have to be off lead rein before you can loan, however I’m sure you could see if a yard will loan to a complete beginner. The main things they look at aren’t the riding but the caring for the horse, so if you can tack up, groom, clean and all that jazz, I don’t see why not :D This is just in my case tho x
