People actually said he was 'too visual'? Fuck off, it's a film, it's meant to look good which Blade Runner certainly does. I think it's one of the most gorgeous looking (and sounding) films ever made.

Sigh. Maybe if they stopped thinking about saving money they might actually create a masterpiece. I rarely watch movies now BECAUSE movies are like junk food. They dont care anymore - they just churn out rubbish and a little BRAINWASHING into the mix to trick people into thinking its good when in actual fact its trash.

Listening to Mr. Scott describe how they solved the challenge of putting that subtle light in the eyes of the replicant characters in the "pre-digital" era was just fascinating! and such a wonderfully subtle and effective end result. The tiniest of details that went into making this great, classic film.

Blade runner is a totally unique and brilliant movie. Everything about it is world class. They really don't make them like this anymore. Ridley is a stone cold GENIUS. You can see it in all his films. I remember I met Joe Turkel, the man who played 'Tyrell' the creator of the replicants in the movie, at a hot dog joint in LA one afternoon. I kept staring at him, thinking, "Where have I seen this guy before??" His facial features were so unique. Then I realized that without the thick glasses he wore in the film was the reason I couldn't put it together. I walked up to him and asked to be sure, and he was the most friendly and terrific guy you can imagine, nothing like the character you see on the screen. But that's what good acting is all about, right?

Makes sense because Tyrell is a gnostic Demiurge who gets killed by his own "son" who destroys his eyes. Very symbolic. It has a little-bit of an Egyptian (masonic) touch, as well as something from greek mythology. The movie also could have been called "Prometheus".

It's so funny that as this started & Ridley Scott is about to talk about his favorite scene in Blade Runner, I thought of that particular scene before he said it. It always stands out, the lighting, the room, the interaction, it's amazing.

The fact that Blade Runner is still commonly talked about nearly 40 years after its release is a testament to its brilliance as a film. It surprised me that Ridley Scott considered this his favorite scene, because not knowing this, I've long considered this to be one of the top 5 movie scenes of all time. And again to its credit, I've also thought the "Tears in Rain" scene to be among my top 5 as well.

I've accidentally done it to my dog's eyes when taking a picture of her, lol. I'm sure you've seen that effect before of the light reflecting back into the camera lens off someone's eyes ;)

At 79 years old Ridley is sharp as ever! I just wish he could leave behind Alien and focus on more films like Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and Martian. I'd like to see that Battle of Britain film and Wraiths of the Broken Land that he was supposed to direct. Maybe some fantasy or original sci fi films, his attention to detail is superb, he just needs a good script.

In the early 90s Ridley Scott was involved in a remake of Forbidden Planet, it never got beyond concept art, some of which is available on the web

I don't think he should ever make another Gladiator or Kingdom of Heaven... KoH which i personally hated. I'd be really interested if he made another film like Matchstick Men.. Which i'd say is one of his most underrated films. Its really really good. Ebert gave it 4 out of 4.
