Good question. It depends what range you want to sight your rifle in for as well as your line of sight (distance from center of bore to center of scope). It's called a boresighter for a reason. It will get you on paper but you'll still need to make adjustments once on paper. The closer you can boresight to your zero distance, the better. It was raining outside when I filmed this so I had to do so inside.

Nice presentation. I believe you should have also added, to make sure the laser is also properly centered. In case you don't know, look on the sides just in front of the laser, you will see 4 allen screws. These are for adjusting the laser, (if for some odd reason it is off). I Don't know why it doesn't come fixed or set. But its also a factor in getting the proper sighting.

Yes, it will only be bore sighted for that specific range. If you wanted to be sighted in at 100 yards, for example, you could boresight for 25 yards and then immediately be on paper at 100 yards when you go out to the range.

@buzzclark This video was intended to demonstrate scope leveling and to promote the fact that they now had a green light. For accuracy at longer distances, the process is the same, it is just dependent on how long of a shot you want your scope zeroed in on.

lasers are straight, bullets arc towards the ground as they fly to the target, sure you'll be within a few inches, but the way he speaks you are zero'd, you aren't, I'd recommend setting the crosshair slightly below, so you have to actually raise the muzzle slightly to have the scope on the target. For example, scope is about 2 inches over bore, so completely parallel bullet path would be 2" low at 100, but with bullet fall, it's more likely 3 1/2 to 4 inches low at 100 doing it this way. Just FYI, bore sight and then go to range and punch paper and get a true zero

I found for most shotgun slugs and 22 rifles with 5 yards to zero the gun in, if you go .5 inch high(10 inch drop) on boresighting to 3/4 inch high(15 inches drop) it will often hit 8x10 paper off the gate if aimed for the center at 100 yards. 1/2 those numbers for 50 yards:)
@ryan52620
@ryan52620 14 жыл бұрын
yeah i know what bullet trajectory is but at that close of range say 10 feet you have to take in the fact that your optic or iron sight is above your barrel by a couple inches so you must aim high that is called height over bore. bullet trajectory is good for long range so you know the drop

I would like to add that you need to re-check your bore alignment by rotating your bore sight 1/4 turn, check reticle and make adjustments. Even the slightest movement when putting on that scope leveler will through off the laser.

Sorry buddy but you are way off. If you were projecting that laser dot out to 75 yards then yes you would be adjusting the scope cross hairs onto the laser dot but you are in a room projecting the dot onto a wall about 15 feet away, lol lol in that case you need to measure how far the center of the scope front lens is above the center of the rifles bore which is usually somewhere between an inch to two inches so whatever that distance is is how far above the lasers dot you need to put the cross hairs onto the target otherwise when you go out to the range the gun will be sighted in many inches below where the bullet is actually hitting at 100 yards. The bottom line is that it is best to do the laser sighting outside at a distance of at least 50 yards or a 150 feet and this will get you close enough to be able to dial it in closer without using up too many rounds. FYI.
@HighRoadHunting
@HighRoadHunting 8 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the constructive criticism, but it was raining and I was unable to do the video outside. You are correct in that the closer to your actual sight in range you do the bore sight, the closer you will be to zero at your sight in range.

and who/what centers your bore sight? Mine came so far out of alignment it wasn't funny. Didn't notice it right away and assumed my scope/laser was way out of adjustment. Only after actually shooting several rounds did I find out how bad out of adjustment mine came from the factory. There are even adjustment screws on mine. Why, just glue/solder the damn thing tight and straight.

what brand is it and also describe as descriptively as you can how the bore sight looked in the end of your barrel , when i was first learning how to use mine i had only stuck the adapter piece in at the very end of the barrel noticing i could still move the sight then going beck to the instructions i had to actually put the bore sight in until it stopped at the sloped part towards the top of the laser and twist it to tighten the adapter inside of my barrel using the rifling to line its self up perfectly with where it needed to be , if you have any other trouble i may be able to make a clearer video for you and email it to you to help , this kind of stuff is fascinating to me wich is why im so eager to help

Putting the cross hairs on the green dot @ 25 feet means you are lofting the bullet @ 100 yards. Marty, below, is correct. You have to find line of sight and center axis. Take two sheets of printer paper, tape then together the long way, then tape them to a counter or table. Lay the rifle on the paper. Using a carpenters square mark the top and bottom of the barrel on the paper. With out moving the gun, mark the top of the objective end of the scope. Remove the rifle and measure the OD diameter of the scope bell with a caliper and transfer the measurement to below the scope measurement. You now have center LOS (like of sight) and center bore axis. Measure each center from the bottom of the paper then transfer one vertically to the other. You now have an aim point accurate at any distance.

I hear alot of questions about long distance indoor sighting. I've never tried it before so I cannot attest as to the feasibility of it. In theory, using mirrors on indoor opposing walls, one can multiply the effective distance of the laser trajectory by creating a "hall-of-mirrors" effect. I wouldn't doubt if gunsmiths use this technique behind closed doors. The operative word being "closed". Close the door to line up the mirror. If this is too complex, take it to the range or pay a gunsmith.

Depends on how much money you got don't you think? haha If you think .223 is expensive try 7.62x 51. Hell .223 is very cheap in bulk amounts just buy wolf ammo or federal. I also reload which makes ammo even cheaper. Which makes it a must as I shoot around a 500-thousand rounds of .223 and 100-200 rnds of 7.62 on my personal range trips with my own weapons. I also work in LE so I train with my issued Sig 226 and G-36's but work ammo is free :)

@adamroach26 i believe it would be just like if you sighted it in normally if you sight it at 50 yrds than its zeroed at 50 if you do it at 100 than its zeroed at 100 yrds lets just say to make it easy if your zeroed in at 50 yards and you shoot at something say 10 yards it won't hit were you aim you will hit low i believe it's called height over bore because your sight is a few inches above your barrel you would have to aim a few inches high hope i didn't make that to complicated lol

Is this a new type of laserlyte? No....just saw this video is over 10 years old.... They've succeeded in turning their original model into junk and epoxied over the adjustment ability, at least the unit I got via Amazon. My original worked great UNTIL the switch somehow broke and works intermittently. I cannot repair it so it's junk. Is the switch the same on this unit as the original? Twist the battery case to turn it on. My guess is the spring connected to the board inside the unit breaks and they made it so you can't take it apart to resolder it. Perhaps I should design one myself that I know will work. Does anyone else have any good suggestions for a replacement bore sighter?

I have a Bushnell laser bore sight and was wondering if it matters how far away the dot is? In the instructions that came with my bore sight it says to try for 50-100 yards away but when I have taken in my rifle to shops and had them do it they did it in a small enclosed room and charged me $15 with a "good luck" (that is why I purchased my own bore sight). In this video I see you are doing it in an exceptionally small space. So what is the standard and what is the best way of doing this?

when i put the sight into the barrel i assume it connects with the rifling in the barrel.can the arbour get stuck in the barrel, So it needs to be tight to align but i am a little afraid that i will not be able to remove as it must be fitted in tightly. Do you reckon that i am just a little too careful? and should just try it out. The rifle is a .22 air gun that is NOT a barrel break model, so getting stuck would be a big problem, thanks....

You spent most of the time trying to level the scope to the gun when it is not needed. You only need to level the scope to the world. If this is going to be a hunting rifle you'll never notice if your scope is slightly canted. As long as you can't tell by looking through the scope then you won't be able to tell by shooting the gun. If it is going to be a precision rifle then all you need is a scope mounted level.

Not exactly works the way you demonstrated . If you are between 50 to 100 yards then your explanation works. For shorter ranges such as your exemple you need to compensate for the short distance usually sighting higher. Some laser sighters provide a compensation target.
