That x bolt has a 1:8 twist on the barrel. Pretty fast for a 300 win. It loves 200 grain and above. Mine groups great using Federal Premium Terminal Ascent 200 Grain. The heavier the better it seems with the xbolt in the 300 wm. Great shooting.

They have different series of the Hells Canyon rifles. Your 6.5 may be a long range model. The speed model has a thinner profile barrel than the long range model, the long range also has a longer / different bolt knob.

The reason is the 300 win mag is a monster!!! It has 3200 fps so if you shoot 3 to 4 shots quick it's hot!!! Thinner the barrell quicker it cools

@@nicholaswillard9756 and the quicker it heats up lol? The whole point of a sporter weight barrel is to make it easier to carry as it weighs less. You’re only meant to take 1-4 shots and get your ‘prize animal’ and be done. Hence why varmint rifles have VARMINT profile barrels. Because you’re normally slinging rounds in mass to take out multiple small critters. Sustained fire.

That thing is supposed to be shooting under or to 1 moa @ 100. Your first group was way over 1 (shabby) and the 2nd maybe 1, but still pushing it, possibly stoll over 1 moa between your 2 widest shots. I hope the groups keep improving for you or I'd be looking into why.

I was using a cheaper Federal bullet in these shots. I bought some Winchester XP extreme points and the grouping is around 1 MOA consistently now. Looks like the ammo made all the difference here.

I was concerned that the 300win mag xbolt would be too light and really pack too much of a punch to be accurate when hunting, not to mention pain. Is this a legit concern?

Not in my opinion. I took it to Alabama about a month ago. It was absolutely incredible. It’s one of the best guns I’ve ever hunted with. Doesn’t kick too bad and is still a lightweight gun.

Late to the party but ill add my 2 cents. I shoot mine with no muzzle brake. Its to dangerous to my hearing and if i have a hunting partner with me. The recoil pad is so good that i dont even think of a flinch when taking a shot. It does have a punch, but if you hold it correctly and firm in your shoulder, you dont have to death grip it its very comfortable. Its not like the old days of brass butt plates and bad ergonomitry where it would beatt the tar out of you. I literally could do a full day at the range with no brake on it and be just fine.

My brother has a 6.5 creedmor x bolt. I have a 270. Mine is the speed and his is a long range model. His barrel is thicker and longer than my 270. That’s probably what the difference is between the two

Looks pretty good! My X-Bolt .30-06 will shoot Federals about the same. Best was about 0.72" at 100 meters. Sellier and Bellot 180's group center of impacts within a 1 euro coin, so Im happy. If you handload for that rifle, it will group MUCH tighter. Alot of potential. Good shooting! and good luck! WmH!

Thanks for watching! I have a friend who has the same gun and his does really well with Winchester XPs so I’m gonna give those a shot next. Haven’t gotten into hand loading yet but have been considering it. Any tips for getting started?

Have the same rifle Had some problems figuring out what ammo it liked. Couldn’t get it to group 180g or heavier. Did ok with 150’s. Have it shooting the best with 168g Berger VLD’s This was my second season with it. I’ve got a few deer with it but also missed a few shots that I shouldn’t have missed. I need more longer range practice with it.

Still going through bullet recipes but my best so far is Nosler 190 gr 1 1/8” group at 100. I’ve since had the barrel re-seated and have not shot since. I really want to get to the .5 MOA they advertised and let everyone know what works. At least out of my rifle.

With the right ammo it will do 300yds Ez. I hunted with my 300 win mag in Alabama at 245. I dropped deers in there tracks.
