very cool, yeah, sometimes the dog is right even though it doesn't seem like it. a good dog for trailing is a treasure for sure and have bailed me out several times. I bow hunted too thru muzzle loading and rifle seasons. congrats on the recovery and the good follow up shot

Way more ethical to search for a wounded deer with dog on a leash, than the deer SCOUTING aspect that occurs when using a thermal drone. Glad you were able to find and dispatch. I thought the fur pulled off was maybe from vultures or coyote. Ha.

Most states that allow searching for a wounded big game animal require the dog to be on a leash, so that it can only take part in the SEARCH for a potentially downed animal. If the dog was allowed to run free during the search, it shifts from searching, to hunting and possibly chasing, running down the animal, which in may states, is considered part of the "taking" aspect of hunting, which would be considered "hunting big game with dogs".

Awesome & quite courageous on your part. Don't you get a bit scared walking around in the woods with over a million rifle armed hunters shooting all over the place? Just curious, because quite honestly, It would scare the sh*t out of me. Enjoy the venison & happy new year!
