Counting Crows is one of the greatest bands of the 90's and we're granted access to Dave's gear, yet everyone is more worried about the host. crazy...

Her first RR and I think she did pretty well. I'm sure she will feel more comfortable and relaxed in the next rundowns. I'm looking forward to seeing more. Kinda missed the old school rundowns - though I'm not a John Bohlinger hater in any way. Maybe it was the artists he did the rundowns for I couldn't connect with. But CC is cool und Dave Bryson's great and honest and.. great! :D
@JamesShore19908 жыл бұрын
Bohlinger at least asks the important questions, unlike that Perry dude, who's always "Gotcha!" "Cool!" and acting like he eats a bowl of cocaine for breakfast.

Why do people keep complaining about the switching on Jazzmasters? All you have to do is leave it alone and just use the lower toggle switch.

Dave doesn't get much credit in the guitar world, but August and Everything After is full of great riffs and catchy guitar parts/melodies and tasty simple leads that he wrote. He always had fantastic tone and it really pisses me off when bands hire extraneous members. I realize that Immy played on some of their albums, but now his inclusion simply buries Dave's parts in the mix. Dave shouldn't be the after thought, he's the FOUNDING member and guitarist of the band and deserves to be in the forefront with all his parts. Dan Vickrey was brought in as a lead guitarist, and he adds an appropriate amount of it. The addition of the 3rd guitar player is absolutely unnecessary, and you can hear Dave's frustration when he mentions having so many guitar players and how it's hard for him to strike through the mix. I hate to say it, but everything kinda went downhill for this band when Matt Malley left as bass player, Adam started talking his lyrics like he's at some beat poetry session and they inexplicably added Immy on guitar. So, here's to you Dave and simpler times! (P.S. you can hear Toad The Wet Sprocket warming up with "The Moment" halfway through the video, still the same 4 members and killing it even today! hint hint)

ianA FYI Immy has played on every single Counting Crows record, including August and Everything After.. so they've almost always had 3 guitarists, just not live.

I love the band but no very little about them. Who is the creative lead or behind setting the tone and catchiness on August and Everything After? I get it's collaborative but who is the main person that set that and drove it home? that beat poetry stuff is terrible. August and Everything After is one of the great debut albums and a truly great album period. My hunch, again knowing nothing, is that Adam is a smart, rich, talented, kid who really wanted to make something succesful. Then once he did he got indulgent and didn't make the sacrifices of listening to other people and working in the same way. Started telling himself it was solely his genius he got there. At that point he was famous enough there was no real way to argue it. Probablly he was right, to some extent. Either that or there was some super producer or mentor behind the scenes who disappeared. Could be wrong but my feeling is Tarrantino's movies went downhill both with the death of his editor and not as much influence of Weinstein. Anyway, if Duritz was forced to make a hit album again or really, really, wanted to he probably could find a way. That dog just ain't hungry in the same way anymore. Again, that's all just speculation. The album is so amazing that I'm drunk thinking about it.
@bennunes9672 жыл бұрын
@@johntallanger4036 it could be the producer T. Bone Burnett. He produced August but never did another record with them again. He is also credited as a guitar player on that first record. Perhaps he had a huge impact on that first record that they could never quite replicate themselves. He also produced Bringing Down the Horse by the Wallflowers which is another amazing record and arguably their best. Just a hunch. And personally I loved Counting Crows’ second record a ton too.
@HardPass Жыл бұрын
you are EXACTLY right. I like Immy, but around the time Matt left, the band became the Adam and Immy show. Dave Bryson is such a major part of their early success. Crows are still great but they could be even better if Dave was given a prominent role again. One positive thing ill say is that Jim is clearly the best drummer of the 3.
