I used to think of Latvia and Riga as a depressed and poor place. Like old Soviet empty shelves and no selection of foods or goods. The abundance of artisan foods and delicious looking things was surprising.

@@J.E.E It was my first time in that side of the world and totally enjoyed it. Can't wait to see the place in winter in a few months though I know my tropical Taiwan arse will not be used to the cold. I heard it's a different cold than here in Ireland and can see you walking around just fine in the market. 😆 Really enjoy your videos, for me it's always the people no matter how beautiful the place is. Thanks for your videos that make this reality a more interesting place. Keep it up 😉👍

The way this market has changed in 25 years is unbelievable. In April 1996 to give you an idea, in the meat and cheese sections there were only a couple of fridges...

Nice video mate, some great engagement with the locals too. How long have you been speaking Russian? Good job 👏
@J.E.E3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Dave... I love interacting with the locals, they are so much fun and so different at times. It's been a good few years regarding the Russian, but still an ongoing process. I see you handle yourself well in Russian, considering you also have the Anglo-Saxon curse to foreign languages. Although I feel like I have broken that myth as I speak many languages with Russian being my weakest at the moment.

Hi Bartlomej... Not sure if she was happy that I wasn't pole or excited that I was from England!!! Either way I was in Poland not too long ago and can honestly say I was super impressed with the cities I visited but most of all with the people. Let's just hope she was excited I was English!!! I had meetings in Tarnow the day I recorded Gdynia and did my test to return home near there. I drove through some amazing forests with amazing landscapes with lakes. I loved it. Thank you for watching and for commenting👌👍

Just like Ukraine the capital Riga is very Russian and it gets even more so in the east of the country. For obvious reasons this causes quite some separation in the country🤔
