Despite the popular belief, this song has nothing to do with Pol Pot or the Khemer Rouge regime. According to ‘ftee’: “This is a remix of a Sinn Sisamuth song from long before the Khmer Rouge [original song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJ7Nkpd7qp2trK8 ], the version in the video here was sung by Darkie, a northwestern Cambodian singer. It was found in a cassette collection in the U.S. at some point in the early 2000s and was compiled into the Cambodian Cassette Archives Volume 1. I found a video of the song last year with the Czech and English lyrics [video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/il6viWqprMiBY5I ], but some Cambodians said they were fake. I tried looking for the real lyrics, but it was a wild goose chase and I could not find them anywhere. No translators were able to understand it because it was in the Surin dialect of Khmer. The credit for these lyrics should go to Manakum who roughly transcribed the lyrics from a very difficult dialect.
