Enjoyed the video. Very interesting. Definitely a valuable technique for retrieving remote rigging lines. Thanks for sharing.

1st and only video I've seen with this technique. Well done. Thx for sharing.

I like the system. I might consider attaching the end of the tag line to the trunk of the tree rather than my harness. It would be less likely to pull me off my working position. I like it.

Yes, attach to the tree, not your body.

I wonder if putting the retrieval line further out on the rigging line with a simple slipknot (so that it comes undone once under tension) would reduce the likelihood of it catching on the branch.
@ClimbingArborist10 ай бұрын
That sounds like a great idea

Dan, I know you communicated in the video, but I’m just clarifying what I think you were saying with ‘where it can go wrong’. The pulley/biner didn’t actually snag, the retrieval rope itself snagged on a nub on the branch, and that was because of negative rigging and the opportunity for the limb to come down on the line. Correct?

Great tip Dan! I'm gonna try it out this week at work if the opportunity comes.

Used my second flip line in a similar way the other day. Went fine with rigging point above. Just with karabiner on flipline though no pulley.

The pinto pulley is clutch in this situation hey? It seems like the ease of use on the retrieval makes the sustainability factor go up exponentially.

Use another rigging line (instead of climbing line)and add friction to it (via nat crotch or device) and you have a drift line. You can also control where the piece lowers down at as well

groundsman ties the rigging rope to the tail of the climbers rope to be retrieved , less gear involved and no tangling... good to see other options anyway, thanks!

I use a heavy duty recoiling dog lead. Goes to 30’. Just change the dog snap for a roller carabiner . Much tidier and self recoiling 😉

Timing of upload is almost uncanny. I was in almost the exact same situation on a job today. 3 maples in a row coming out, and rigging both end ones off the middle one. Except I was by myself so I had to climb down every time anyway.

Is that spliced xstatic on your main line
@ClimbingArborist Жыл бұрын
Yes 👍
@toddbremer9131 Жыл бұрын
I thought they could not splice that rope?Only thing about mine I don’t like, I have had the stitched end hang up when doing a ring and ring retrieval, otherwise I love it!!!

Can you explain the “permit” you need?
@jondickinson3606 Жыл бұрын
Some towns, and especially HOA’s require permits when removing trees. If there are too few trees in a neighborhood, we wouldn’t be able to remove them unless they’re hazardous because it “ruins” the aesthetic and natural beauty of the landscape.
@tomislavkrizanic6693 Жыл бұрын
You could hook rigging line to your climbing line, put some tension on climbing line and than pull the rigging line up to your climbing device, one man man can do that from the ground.

Not if there’s a tree crown in the way between climber and RP
@tonykillingsworth9247 Жыл бұрын
My Suggestion is to put a butterfly above the tail maybe 10 feet and retrieval line above the butterfly .not as likley to get caught in the limb ! And leave the retrieval a little slack and tie it to the tree !

No fuckin way I'd have any part of the rigging system attached to myself during rigging

You can attach the retrieval line to your tree, don’t need to have it attached to you
