This vid shows how I rig my 21 foot fractional rig, swing keel trailer sailer, quite easy once you get the hang of it. Takes about 30 minutes to set up.

....found your video and love every minute....have watched it several times....I am in the market for a 21' trailer sailer and that I can handle myself therefore I find your video raising and lowering the mast very encouraging....thanks!

Thanks for sharing the vid. Nice boat. Looks like she sails well in light wind. I have a San Juan 21 that I frequently rig by myself, Your right, once you get the hang of it, its easy. Actually, I have help from my 6 yr old first mate, but she is a little light for mast stepping right now. Thanks.
@sailor5834 жыл бұрын
It is a lot easier if you start lifting the mast in the cockpit and just walk it up to the top of the cabin. Once you cross the 45 degree angle it will start getting lighter.
@philipbright63004 ай бұрын
Finally someone with the sense to just lift the mast by hand like I've done and could still do on my 21 footer. I see so many ppl taking an hour to raise a skinny light mast with two ppl and wonder why? Safety? I have installed a winch on the tongue of my trailer and a anchor pully on the bow and a simple gin pole i slip over at the base of the mast and connect the forestay to the winch which i clip on a battery in the back of my suv and it has a cordless remote which i hold between my teeth and bite down on while i stand on the cabin and support the gin pole and mast from swaying out very easily and in seconds.

Ive got a 20ft Sunmaid, first boat, really wish the rigging was shown in a bit more detail. Kicking strap, mainsheet, both missing from the video, would loved to see all the steps. Thabks though, it did shed a bit of light.

Is this boat a centerboard? If so what kind of trailer was it on?
@AngryRambro3 жыл бұрын
Yes it has a lead weighted centreboard on a winch. It was on an air bag suspension single axle tilt trailer. I no longer have the boat, sold it years ago, I miss it, was a very fast light hull.

I have/had an opportunity to buy a fully working 21' Sailboat on a trailer with all the rigging and extra sails for $500. The one I'm looking at has a Keel and sit very high on the trailer. I didn't see a KEEL on yours. Does it have one that slips in like the rudder did?

Nice, this one has a swing keel, about a metre long with a big chunk of lead in the bottom

My 17' trailer sailer has a much heavier mast than that, a torture to put up, that mast crutch would snap with my mast.
@thekiteboatparty35686 жыл бұрын
Epic bro! You could try some of these if you have the budget www.anzor.co.nz/marine-hardware/snap-shackles Sweet system how you can raise the mast by hand! I have to use the mainsheet block assembly to raise it up and down by connecting it to a line from the top of the mast and to the stem head fitting but your way is so much easier with that raising up mast support!

Love the dagger board style rudder frame. This would work better than a kick up if you wanted to swap out for a trolling motor.

Great video. Based on time-lapse, setup seems like its about 15 minutes before unloading off trailer?
@daveopincarne37184 жыл бұрын
Hahaha😂 Even as smoothly as this is, 15 minutes for a stayed mast with a fore sail would take Indy pit crew speed.

of course, it goes without saying that as soon as you are ready to sail, the wind dies down!

Wow, that's too easy! I used to have to drop the mast twice: winch it down and hold it on my shoulder as I motored under two different bridges. . . . After I got out past the jetty, I could attach the boom, sails, etc. Good times!
@AngryRambro10 жыл бұрын
Sounds like hard work... once a day is enough for me ;) Where did you sail?
@chriscroz10 жыл бұрын
In Southern California, Orange County. I used to use that launch ramp because it was free and open 24 hours. Basically the same boat that you have, 21' day-sailer likely intended more for lakes than ocean, but still fun.
@AngryRambro10 жыл бұрын
chriscroz Nice, Yeah there are free ramps around here, this one is $5 a day but has wash down facilities, security cameras & is deep so I can drop the keel down straight away in any tide.

Where did you get the backet you use at the stern to raise the mast? The support on my Mac22 is crappy wood, and isn't nearly as useful.

Its home made, just a piece of aluminium box section with another smaller piece to slide inside it, a stainless pin goes through both to lock it at the right height
