Having a cranking battery solely for cranking and a house battery to run electronics is a must have(which Mike shows in this video). So many people I see running everything from the same battery and have to use those jumper cables way too often!!
@duaynebarr43925 жыл бұрын
I use two batteries each with an AB switch and two dedicated circuits. One circuit is my cranking house av lights and the other is my aux (bait tanks, pumps, down riggers, radios, etc). That means either battery can be cranking or aux depending on that battery's AB setting. Two bilge pumps. One to each battery.

I really like your videos. One question about this one. I get that you should always have tools and extra parts. Have you ever weighed your boat empty versus loaded with everything loaded? I was curious how much added weight is in there without people. I just purchased a 23 foot center console and is listed as being able to hold 9 people, but with all fishing equipment and extra tools, I am wondering if it would put me overweight. Thanks.
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t actually weighed it, but I have done the math and you’re right you can go over fast. Your dealer will have dry weights listed. Your yellow tag will also have passengers plus gear.

Why soo many transducers? All 4 can hook into one display screen? Or do they hook into that big computer looking thing in the helm.
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS4 жыл бұрын
I do a lot of testing so I carry more than most. Each display can handle two transducers directly or the tan box that says SIMRAD can take 3 CHIRP transducers directly. It’s an S5100 CHIRP processor.

Hey Mike, this is off topic to the Video, but I’m working with my dealer to spec out a 248. Ive chosen the 12” ness evo 3 Simrad unit , but there are 2 choices for the through hull transducer. Choices are either 12 Degree or 20 Degree. Which do I need for this hull? Is it referring to mounting angle? As far as closest match for the dead rise of the boat, or the Cone degrees of the transducer? Anyway what do you suggest? Thanks, David
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS5 жыл бұрын
You want 12 degree. Is the dealer installing the transducer or Sea Pro? What model are you going with.
@MercerRaceCars5 жыл бұрын
Mike Smedley yes it will be factory installed at sea pro , on the build sheet we filled out the options on the through hull were the SS60 Bronze 600 W Thru Hull 50/200khz. This will be in a 248dlx boat. Is that the transducer i need?
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS5 жыл бұрын
David Mercer I STRONGLY recommend upgrading to the B175 High CHIRP Wide. It’s a few hundred bucks more, but it is the absolute best thru hull for fishing less than 1000 feet. The B60 is an entry level Transducer. You have a CHIRP processor built into the Evo3. You need a CHIRP Transducer to take advantage of that. The B60 will work, but it definitely a entry level unit, they offer it as standard because guys complain about the higher prices of CHIRP Transducers. The B150 Medium CHIRP is a nice Transducer too. Similar price to B 60.
@MercerRaceCars5 жыл бұрын
Mike Smedley Thanks Brother! Are there any other standard items you can think of that I definitely need to upgrade?
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS5 жыл бұрын
David Mercer add transom mount Active Imaging 2 in 1 Transducer for best Side Scan. (Get 3 in 1 if you stay with B60). Get extra flush mount rod holders near the bow. I resisted t top misters for years. I have them on this boat and I LOVE them in summer. Get the hydraulic jack plate 12”.
