Guys. Champion rower 14yo experience. Only a rower can teach you. Shes not body over anywhere near enough.

she even added a dotted line pretending like having a straight back at the catch is good lol

it is not bad to round your back a bit at the catch. You need to use back extension in the stroke to have more power and in general it is not bad to let your heels lift if it isn’t exaggerated, that is why the stretchers are designed to accommodate it.

Fax, rowing like person up top is maybe good if you’re like 7 feet tall

I disagree. Your back must be straight and ridgid at the catch, only bent at the hip. It must be able to immediately transfer the torque from your legs. Your better off taking more strokes like this than trying to get more length by bending ur back at the catch.

Your form isn’t quite right, but it is a major improvement. Some slight tweaks to be made: - you can lift your heels off the stretcher so that you can reach vertical shins for the catch. You could do this one of two ways the easy way is to just lift them by raising the feet on the ergo, the second is a more long term fix of improving your flexibility so that they only have to lift slightly. - you aren’t quite getting enough body lean. It has gone from one extreme to another. Think about a clock face. It should be 11-1 ensuring that you still have that lean forwards all the way to the catch but making sure that your shoulders don’t drop and you engage your legs first - third and final comment is again to do with your feet. You are raising your toes of the stretcher board. You should engage your core muscles to keep these flat as you can engage the most power through the ball of your feet right at the catch. A good exercise to fix this is feet out rowing to have less reliance on the straps. This will also help if you row in a boat as well and can be replicated as an exercise out on the water. Good luck and have fun rowing

Rowing is about efficiency. Your stroke must be as long as possible, and from the second you start accelerating you must keep accelerating till the end of your stroke, as efficiently as possible. Sub 6min 2k here, and you can root yourself at 20 strokes per minute.

I'm by no means an expert but what I love about rowing is that every single strokes takes concentration and I'm constantly checking and adjusting my form to get more out of it. Any movement is good but the better your form gets, the stronger you become.

The first is also bad. You need to follow legs, body, arms, then reverse it. You should have arms and body over and THEN bend your knees. Look up videos from Concept2

Technique unfortunately is still wrong. You should be pushing through your toes, and with a straight back there should be some slight hinging back to get the full stroke. Get in a skiff or double and you will understand.

you need to get a bit more rock in the hips, both on the recovery and at the finish, and start rocking sooner. you also need to be getting more compression of your legs (your shins should be vertical at the catch) and you need to be lifting your heels.

The back position you disparage, with the slightly curved back, just happens to be the recommended position in the Dutch beginners guide. Interestingly, this same position is seen in their senior national team of both men and women, the winners of 6 gold and 4 silver medals at last year’s (2023) World Championships. The straight back team, the US, who train and test on the Concept 2 rower pictured in your video, brought back a silver and two bronze. Our 8s did not make the podium. In fact the US men’s team has been shut out the last 2 Olympics. The technique you promote works well on C2 ergs but not great on the water.

Hey it’s ok I’m on day three of using the rower at the gym I’m 262 pounds I’ve lost close to 100. I’ve always been fascinated with rowing. I decided to try this machine I have a huge stomach I know my form isn’t right which is why I’m watching videos but I love this machine I just say to myself I’ll be able to go down deeper with being able to Bend my knees as the weight comes off. I just hope I don’t injure myself not having the right form lol but don’t worry about your stomach if you want to try it try it
