STORY TIME: The song was originally written for Britney but Rihanna really wanted to record it. Rihanna later asked fans on Twitter who they would like to hear on a remix of the song and the majority of them wanted Britney. Britney agreed to do the remix and immediately went to the studio to write and record her verse just hours before the remix was released on iTunes. Britney was sick when she recorded it and her voice was not edited much because there was no time, which explains why her voice is more nasal than usual and why the production on her parts isn’t as perfect. Rihanna said that she had always been a huge fan of Britney and that she was suprised and excited that she accepted as Britney had never been featured on a song before. And this really was the first song Britney was ever featured on, apart from a charity single in 2001. The remix ended up reaching #1 on the Hot 100, giving Rihanna her 10th and Britney her 5th #1 hit. Despite its success, they never shot a video for the remix, which is probably also why the remix is basically forgotten these days.
