Very useful stuff! Thanks for making these videos :) Question: Complex hands - 3rd ex. with 9p (49:19): would discarding 6s be a bad move? It'd leave us with 44 4556789p 2367s. This way we could still hope for 58s and keep our 44p as a definite pair. No chance for Ippeiko , though.

+Krabman It's okay, but it's better to have the definite pair and a pair + run wait combination. If you have 44 - 4556789p 2367s, the extra 5p isn't very useful, while the discarded 6s was (it lets you get to tenpai with 47p or 6s if you discard the 5p instead). So, if you wanted to still use 58s, it's generally better to discard 5 or 9p (or 6p but usually you choose 9p for tanyao) because the extra pin tile isn't very useful but the extra 6s in 667s is.Essentially, you're choosing a 2 sided wait in either the pin or bamboo tiles, and you want to keep a 2nd pair with the wait you choose, so keep 667s together if you want the bamboo wait, and keep 445456p together if you want the pin tile wait, which has some more draws mixed in as well.
