The intimacy of the moment and the natural lighting he captures. For me every scene feels natural in spite of the painstaking process he used to create them. They’re like photos of ordinary people caught in a second of their lives.

I am an art history major and I love the painters from the Dutch Golden Age, but Vermeer is my favorite. He painted simple everyday life and you really got a sense of what these people were like. He truly was a master. I love Vermeer!

Usually women are the subject of his paintings and this is what attracted me at first. Then I noticed a very special atmosphere in the scenes he painted. Even ordinary life scenes like pouring milk become mesmerizing for the beholder. For me his message is: be active in life, all your deeds matter and make a difference. Enjoy the moment. You may be making a bobbin lace, you may be weighing pearls, playing an instrument or reading a letter... Enjoy the time you have at your disposal. Enjoy your life!

Vermeer transfixes the viewer . When looking at Vermeer time seems to be stopped , my breath is slowed down and I am in awe. I can not move and do not want to leave the painting. I once ran across the National Gallery of Art in Washington to view again Woman Holding a Balance before I left. I am not alone in my desire for Vermeer . The Lace Maker a small painting is one of the most viewed pictures in the Louvre. Vermeer stuns the viewer . I can not get enough of this feeling . If I had the funds I would live in city with a Vermeer.

I love Vermeers because of his colors. Yellow and blue. And calmness in his paintings.

What you do at the Rijksmuseum is very generous, as you put at everyone’s disposal such beautiful paintings from your public domain collection, sharing details that seem to add even more lights and colors to each painting.

It's not the coronations or the battles won that Vermeer dwells on, it is the magic and beauty in the everyday moments on which he focuses. It reminds me that everyday life can and should be magical and beautiful- stop pinning all your happiness on achievements or goals attained- enjoy the journey the gift of now.

Why do I like Vermeer ? He makes his paintigs for ever, you can enjoy till the end of time, they are endlessly worthy. I like the situations and moments that he catches for ever . For ever. Simple things that are made always alive. Landscape of Delft, precise, on the first sight just objective but than you see the beauty and affection. In each of his paintigs you can see not just colours, fresh and alive, but you can feel a flow of emotions and that is exactly what is the purpose of art: to awake the emotions.

Having lived in Delft during my university years I have learnt the city as it is today. Vermeer is my favorite artist that transports us 350 years back in time to that same place. The scenes he painted display the simple and ordinary (indeed private) moments in time frozen as if we were there as a time traveler. The colors used show the atmosphere and the mindset of the people in it.

Another excellent video from the Rijksmuseum. What do I love about Vermeer? The light. The humanity.

I love Vermeer, because the use of light, the story I can only guess, and the use of perspective to tie it all together.

The beauty of the ordinary is what grabs me in each of his paintings. In the woman with the pitcher of milk you can almost hear the milk pouring into the bowl. The serene look on the woman’s face makes me catch my breath as I watch her almost like she herself is barely breathing as she pours. That is talent. The bread on the table makes me want to reach in and take one because they look so delicious and enticing, yet so simple…bread and milk and the sweet joy of such simple treats and perfect moments. I want to talk with her but wouldn’t because it would disturb the peace of that beautiful moment.

I had the privilege of seeing Vermeer’s works that are on display at the Rijksmuseum earlier this year. My husband thought he would be bored stiff and only went for my sake, but found himself in awe of what we got to experience at this wonderful museum. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️hello from Canada 🇨🇦 …I was born in Den Haag and always enjoy visits back to my beautiful Holland❤️

Me encanta Vemeer por el detallismo. Y también porque nos muestra, a través de sus personajes, la vida cotidiana. Sus obras son una invitación a la curiosidad. Es uno de mis favoritos!

I love his paintings because they're simple things and excellently painted. The scenes may be simple but there's a lot of detail, like said in the video, each painting is like a scene in the middle of a movie.

Adoro a Vermeer! Maravilloso intimo y calido reproductor de la vida cotidiana de los habitantes de Delft. Al ver sus imagenes compartimos un episodio en la vida cotidiana de sus personajes. Secretos, rutinas, sueños... Gracias Una fiesta!

I just agree with all the comments, the milk-pouring picture is my favourite because of the bread, crusty and fresh and grainy, you can almost smell and taste it!

Vermeer is so very modern, to me is what stands out. His careful and intentional cropping and creating compositions and working with light, as if he is on the way of innovating abstract art. I think he was a research character, who lived and breathed with his investigations. No wonder his desperation when times made it impossible for him to go on.

It is his use of light that I love the most. It fills his paintings in a way we don't see again until the impressionists. As for this video, I would like it even more if I could get rid of the captions which interfer with viewing the paintings. Thanks.
