The title is right on the money. I don't have a lot of experience with the criminal justice system but work has caused me to visit multiple prisons/correctional facilities & psych wards. Rikers was a unique experience. All of these places have security but visiting Rikers was like nothing else. Multiple check points with bus rides in between. Just going over the bridge gave me the heebie jeebies. It was like something out of a movie. I felt like I was in another country for the 2 hours I was there and I could not wait to GTFO.

I never visited Rikers but i worked in Hunts Point and often saw the bus. Spofford was already abandoned when i worked there, would've been cool to explore the abandoned facility.

What you said about people preferring being in a max security prison, I agree. I’ve always heard that being in solitary confinement is bad and can drive anyone insane. However, if it means not having to worry about getting stabbed or raped, that would be a big plus in my opinion. My primary concern about going to prison would be other wild inmates, and it would be a relief if I knew I wouldn’t have to contend with that, regardless of how bad solitary may be.

I’d agree. I can tell you first hand higher level camps have more organized programs. It’s different in state from the west and east coast. West is more race organized, east is more gang. Then the feds are race first then the city/state your from. Kinda the same in tx. Did time in MD, NY and Tx

15 yrs up in New York state prison. I remember in Elmira reception people had that ugly slice across their face. Than up in Comstock, Attica ... I've seen people getting sliced!!!! Hell yes it’s better. If you got some serious time to do, getting to the pen seems to take forever. You can’t really program in county. It’s temporary. The politics are fucked up, people are in and out, there’s usually no outside yard, no education or job programs, food sucks. It just sucks. Prison sucks, but at least you can get a program going. You get plenty of yard time. You can take classes, get a job. You can settle in and get a routine for yourself. County in almost every case is a worse deal than getting to your destination prison, unless you are headed to some single cell lockdown unit somewhere.
