This video is an unboxing, assembly, and first impression of the Rikon 10-305 10" Bandsaw. As an amateur woodworker, I found myself in need of a bandsaw. I toyed with the idea of a cheaper 9" or 10" version from a big box store since my needs were minimal but I came across a great deal on this model at Menards. Acme Tools also had it on the same sale but Menards also had the 11% rebate running. The saw retails for $499 most places and, before taxes, I got mine for about $267, sale and rebate included. No problem! I’m curious how the resawing is. I’m assuming it won’t be able to do anything too extravagant but that’s what I should expect considering the price tag. I’ve seen folks resaw some stuff on Wens and this is definitely higher quality than that so fingers crossed!

How did re-sawing go?

It’s been fine for what I’ve done so far (some knife scale sized material) and a few smaller pieces of hardwood. I did resawing a larger turning blank into quarters for pens (ironwood) which is pretty dense and it did it no problem. I’ve even cleaned up a piece of Osage orange that started out basically as a split piece of firewood so I could use the core. I go slow but it hasn’t stalled or caused issues

@@Benmeglei1so I just got into cutting bowl blanks and I just replaced the blade with a 1/2” 4 TPI blade and it cut through some hard ash at 4” thick no problem. I’m super impressed

Good video brother. Thank you. What’s your final verdict a month later. Do you dig it? Wish you would have got a different one? Any advice will help because I’m considering picking one up. Cheers from Chicago.

Thanks for watching! I’d like to do some sort of follow-up but overall I’m happy with it. The fence isn’t the best but I’m not looking to do a lot of super accurate work with it. If the fence is going to matter to you a lot other than guiding stock through relatively straight, then you might want to consider a model up with the better fence. It was hard to find anything with a ‘good’ fence at this price point. Other than that, it hasn’t struggled with much, and has done everything I’ve needed so far. I would recommend it if you can find it cheap. Otherwise, if you have the extra 100 bucks from its original retail price, I’d go with the newer model (10-3061) for the fence upgrade and it’s 2-speed

@@DFJWoodworking awesome thank you for your advice. The main concern I have is the weight. If you think you have it bad (space wise) you should see me. I wood work out of my 2nd bedroom in my condo. 🫣Don’t ask. Lol. The better ones weight so much. I need something light so I can move it to and from my storage when I’m not using it. My Main use will be re sawing so fence is pretty important. I’ll get the more expensive one. Appreciate your quick response. 👊🏻

It is pretty heavy (I feel much better about my shop now lol) but depending on if you've got stairs or not to move it up and down, a simple tool stand with some casters would probably work just fine. Let me know how the fence is on the more expensive one! I've seen that it's better but I'm genuinely curious how the upgrade feels. Thanks for watching!
