Glad to see after your staring role on TV you haven't deserted your loyal (?) viewers. I think the cork will work for a time but you'll end up making one out of some thin brass sheet. Nice exercise in soldering for Jenkins maybe? Turning that length of thin bar on the lathe was a bit butt clenching. Thanks for the video, looking forward to you being caught on camera drifting the Riley on roundabouts. Now that would be worth watching.

Fear not Colin, I will continue to make videos for the Tweed garage fans.......even though they're as loyal as a herd of cats. Jenkins has been sent off to a tinning and soldering course for the very task.

I have just caught up on a few of your videos and also have recently purchased a vevor bead roller. One mod you may be interested in was to fit a steering wheel of a Ferguson TE20 tractor instead of the crank handle. Managed to buy a brand new wheel for less than £25. Just bored out the centre and fitted a grub screw. Love your channel 👍

Good idea Matthew, i did stick a hand wheel on it which improved it vastly and a bigger wheel will be even better 👍

a friend had an old Indian motorcycle, he "restored" it and then tried to ride it. modern gasoline was eating up the cork float. so with a new float, he dipped it in a 2 part epoxy and let it set up, then sanded it smooth and hasn't had any complaints since. should be a show called "Shed's of England". hehehe, laughed Randy.

all ideas welcome Naz, i may make a brass barrel float to cure the problem.

Very successful outcome! You would have been better using Silver steel rod for your broach and it did not need to be that long, it seems odd for a proper English vehicle of that period to have used metric sizes? Surely they would have used 5/16" and 1/4" for the handle shaft. When quenching long pieces you will get far better results if a long item is quenched vertically into the water, it tends to become banana shaped quenching it sideways. A really good solution to your 3 Ph supply, better than having leads trailing across the floor, it would be nice to stamp "jet key" on the jet key so that years in the future someone will know what that thing in the glovebox is for. The handles are wonderful, you could get them cast in brass and nickel plate them. Stay safe! Chris B.
@TweedsGarage8 ай бұрын
I should have done Chris but I was just rooting around in my stock bins using what was to hand, it's amazing how quickly the aluminium shavings blocked the cutting teeth. The metric parts on vintage vehicles doesn't surprise me, my 1927 Chevrolet had metric bearings in the back axle, the door lock assemblies may have been bought in items ( I´ll have to look for a makers mark when I dig into the doors ) . I shall stamp jet key as you suggested....so I don't forget what it's for :-)

Good mix there Allan, your 3 phase solution is very elegant, I have the same issue, a 3 phase rotary converter that only has one outlet. I did consider wiring it into a 3 phase distribution box (consumer unit) but they are really expensive. I like your solution and I'll be blatantly copying that! I have a number of 3 phase machines - Colchester Master 2500 lathe, Bridgeport, Fobco Star (same as yours), Elliott Surface Grinder, Cannings 4hp Polishing machine, Startrite bandsaw, big ole grinder, and I'll probably end up with another 3 phase lump of iron at some point as I try to satisfy my chronic iron deficiency. Swapping cables around all the time is a real pain and your solution is easy to do and solves the problem. I never run more than one machine at a time anywhere although I could, my converter is 7.5kw so it would handle the load. It's plumbed into its own 16amp socket so I don't have the blowing fuses problem. Cheers
@TweedsGarage8 ай бұрын
Copy away my good man .....that is an impressive collection of machinery, I would buy more as there's some absolute 3 phase bargains out there but I just don't have the room...........but I keep considering to just store them in the lock up until room becomes available
@coplandjason8 ай бұрын
@@TweedsGarage thank you. There are some real bargains to be had if you can cope with 3 phase, at some point I might add a tool and cutter grinder- spotted a lovely Cincinnati machine a while back but missed out on that one, I’ll keep looking

A nice job on the door handles, the polished aluminium should achieve a nice patina with use. Is that fuel sender & gauge mechanical? My Standard Swallow has a mechanical gauge and the float, which was plated steel, was rusted through. I am experimenting with a brass float (replacement for a Smiths gauge), but I also have a modern plastic float (also from a Smiths gauge) that is UK manufacture and good quality and may use that as an alternative - I don't have your skills so what I do has to be a simple 'bolt-on'. I did try to get a new float made from brass, possible, but it needs a minimum run of 50, so not viable! Would love to see a walk-around of your workshop. Thanks for sharing.

Just a thought old fish 🤔🤔 instead of cork in the fuel tank what about sourcing a old carburetor and poaching the the floats out of the bowl after all they are designed to be saturated in fuel 👍🏻👍🏻 and be small enough to fit through that hole in the tank I’m thinking some nice brass ones out of a old Honda c90 🤔👍🏻
