and THIS is why having your intersex child go through surgery after birth to "normalize" their genitalia is a horrible idea- let your child decide for themselves- when riley said "you decided for me?" it made me feel so bad for him :( :(

If you’re that pissed off about my comment then you’ve got some personal issues to work out. Hermaphroditism can actually cause fatal problems if not properly taken care of, so the idea that the parent who decides to pick a sex when the doctor asks is a horrible person who only does this operation because it’s what they want is inherently flawed. Many transgneders and their friends over decades have referred to mastectomy's or breast implants as "top surgery", and various sexual and excretory organ surgery as "bottom surgery". It's a lot easier than getting into all the exact details of what is snipped, clipped, or turned into artistic topiary with a garden maze and a fountain. (My non-binary foster brother would have loved the colorful metaphor.)

My trans friends refer to below-the-belt gender validation surgery as bottom surgery, and breast surgery as top surgery. Makes sense to me, and conveys the overall idea without specifying intimate details.
