actually local people there in Janda Baik do enjoy the trail every evening using the modified cubchai like you guys were saying (higher fork front & back & offroad tyres). Lighter & easy to handle. Next Rimba Raid, maybe there would be cubchai category (who knows) - this one must can suggest to Capt Nik Huzlan (organizer)

1150/1200/1250GS(A) is not built for this kind of riding. Lots of people that put Dakar stickers on their GS/GSA and Super Ten don't actually know the history of the bike they are riding. The direct descendant of the Dakar winning Boxer BMW is the current R9T and for Yamaha its the XTZ660 or the current 700. Off-road worthy BMW are in fact the F-series 650, 700 and 750 bikes as well as the G650 series. For events like this main priority should be 21"-18" tire size, long travel suspension and actual off-road prowess. This is something the Ducatis, boxer twin GS/GSA, Super Tenere, V-Strom and HD Pan-Am do not have. KTM 890/1090, CRF1000/1100, HRT DL650/1050XT and possibly a well modded RE Himalayan would fare much better.
