When he turned and saw his son sitting on the bed and hugged him I just lost it. This game ripped my heart out. I remember completing this final scene and once the credits started to roll I put my controller down, went to my son's room and just watched him sleep. I am so thankful to have him and I will never take my children for granted 🙏🏻

When I first played this game with my Dad in 2017, we had no idea what it was truly about. We just got a PS4 and were super excited to play some video games on it. We dedicated a lot of time to the puzzles and would look forward to playing it every night after work/school. I was still figuring out how to use an controller so I mostly watched him play it. When we reached the last stage in the game, and watched the ending play out.. it was heartbreaking. At that time, I had never experienced a death in my family. I had yet to experience grief in the traditional sense. To realize that this fun adventure game was truly about a lost son navigating his father's grief was both mindblowing and heartbreaking to my 11 year old mind. A beautiful game. I wish people didn't drag it through the mud because of the gaming part.

The story of Rime is so emotional, powerful, and understandable with it's theme of losing someone. I can tell you that from my recent event, this past summer I lost a grandfather from my mother's side of the family and I was really sad I didn't see him one last time since I'd say Christmas of 2016 and was offered to see him sometime in 2017 like April or May. Though mom told him I said hi to him and he was happy and looking forward to seeing me again, things got odd and didn't happen as expected. He was fine but he wasn't eating drinking or taking his meds, except for some sweets. He died in his sleep from the morning that the doctors called mom about and was sad to death, losing her father just like her mother 7-8 years ago. Maybe my grandfather thought it was time to accept his fate, due to some conditions of suffering he went through and wanted to see his wife in heaven along with our past 2 dogs, 3 other relative dogs and an uncle. Just talking about it while watching this is making me cry. Getting back on topic, the boy losing his sentinel robot friend along with the fox just makes evidence that we can't handle the lost of someone we grown to know especially immediately since it is so out of nowhere and unexpected. However, the sentinel is an exception since it was the last one standing to unlock the door for the boy, but the fox magically appears and disappears whenever the chance. So what was forcing the fox to disappear for good? Because of the statue the boy shout at is caused to make it to disappear much like the opening as it was brought to life? The one part of the game I'm sure everyone knows about is the part when either the boy or father try saving each other from falling into the sea. Speaking of that scene, here's a little fact I bet some of you may or may not believe. I almost went through the similar fate just like the boy in the game 9-10 years ago. How? Well, it was a normal summer day out on the long island sound, except more windy and wavy, during a sailing session of my former weekly schedule of summer sports at the beach club, we were told to sail all the way to the other side of the long island sound and back to the beach club. My experience that day traumatized me forever because of what I went through. About halfway on our way to the other side of the sound, our pixel was about to flip, so I ended up jumping on the wrong end of the boat. Causing the boat to hammer me on the head and trap me under it and my leg getting caught in between the sail for about around or over 20 seconds. An instructor luckily came to my rescue and took me back to the club. Not only that this game showed it's side of losing someone, but it was one I went through myself as I thought I was going to die that day. Ever since, I have not gone back out on the sail boat ever since for a ride. My father tries to get me on a sail boat for a joy ride, but I can't help but feel I shouldn't do it because of that tragic day of mine and the fear that I continue to hold of it and trying something again or new. Sorry that this wasn't about Rime, but it was rather more of a reflection that this game has gave me to look upon.

I feel silly for taking a while to realise this, but maybe the story with the king and queen and prince was a story they made up when they played together with the son's toys? I mean all the toys are part of the game, the fox, the bird, the windmill. wow, that's sad.
@cristiannicolai34647 жыл бұрын
The grief of the father over the loss of his wife and son bound them in the resonating spiritual plane we witnessed in rime. The kid was confused about his whereabouts and mission from the very beginning, having only glimpses of enlightenment through his journey until finally realizing he was dead and also that his father was in deep sorrow in the scene of the ash father figure. Only then he understood his mission and purpose, to help his father letting him go. The white shade is Enu's mother, if you happen to find all white shades through the game, which are located each at one of the stages of grief with exception to the Acceptance one, an alternative ending will be on display showing the wife soul comforting the father and following later her son to the afterlife, hopefully heaven this time in order to imagine in my mind a more happier ending. The keyhole portraits help depict the story of the family as if were all characters of the spiritual plane, a king, a queen and their little prince, having as a common factor to the real life, the emotional part. The elements found in the game such as windmill (photograph found at the cottage lobby), boats, toys etc, were part of the family's daily life and can be presumed to have a space in the spiritual world coming directly from his father's attachments and feelings as they did his emotions in the anger stage through the bird and the blazing sun as well as the heavy rain in the depression stage. The tower served as connection between both planes. That's the way i saw it, please let me know if there is more to be connected in this marvelous game. Enjoy the video, thank you for uploading

The kid is an embodiment of "loss" just like the fox is "hope" and the faceless figure "fathers guilt". The whole RIME world was from father's subconscious and you never play as a child. The only time you see the child is the apparition a the end. Otherwise, your assessment is pretty good.

I've only played this game once, but it left such a lasting impact on me. I still remember how every time the music swelled my heart would get so happy hearing the beautiful music. I remember the first tall, two-legged cyclops machine companion, that I so creatively named Eyeball. I remember our first companion, the fox. When I first started playing RIME, I thought it would be a simple adventure game with no goal and no meaning. How wrong I was. Though it was an adventure, everything about it was meaningful. I'm not sure if the ending scene is the same on every console. I play on PS4, and I remember the ending scene so vividly. I walked around the room, watched as the father hugged his boy one last time, and go towards the window. I was fully prepared for his father to throw the scarf out the window, but when the father hesitated, the game gave me an option. It's been a while since I played the game, but I think it said something like "use the right joystick button to let go". I was so unprepared for that. Instead of the game doing the hardest part for me, I had to let the boy, the character I had grown attached to and wanted to see succeed, go. I was essentially in the father's same position. I had to let something I loved go. That broke my heart more than anything else. I remember being so tempted to just let the game sit and never finish it (I didn't want it to ever end). I was scared of it ending. After maybe three minutes or so, I gathered up the courage and I let go. . . Man, I want to play this game again sometime.

I remember staying up extremely late into the night (more like early morning) playing this entire game, sometimes it felt like it would never end but looking back I wish it never did. Such beautiful storytelling and visuals with a gorgeous soundtrack to back it. It’s 3am and I’m laying in my bed but for some reason I thought of this game and I couldn’t get to sleep without watching the ending again. If you like this I’d also recommend checking out a game called bound, it’s free with PlayStation plus and the visuals and storytelling are amazing though I got stuck at a difficult part and haven’t finished it.. anyways, that’s all :)

For a long time I interpreted the game as strictly through the emotional and spiritual journey of the father, but the more I think about it, I believe the story is also about the boys journey as well, both running in parallel until they both let go and accept what has happened and move on.

Is it all in his head, though? That's what I thought too at first, but the physical appearance of the red scarf at the end from thin air leaves me to believe that perhaps this is one of those open for interpretation endings. It could be that it was all in the father's head, his way of coping with the loss of his child. It could also be the child's metaphysical journey after death, his way of understanding what happened to him, coming to terms with it, and finally moving on (when he took the jump into the pit), but not before paying one last visit to his father.
@TheaArtsFox7 жыл бұрын
THE_BOLSHEVIK I think is more like the travel of the child to "understand" and accept, that he was the one lost... cause all the things in the worlds, are related to the toys and items you find. Is how people say here, when you die you don't notice it, so they pray nine days after that, and it makes the "spirit" wake up and notice that is not in this world anymore, then in the 9th day, the most important, they rise and accept their death.

It's open for interpretation, but I like to think it's all in the father's mind. As shown after the game is finished, the names of the levels are the 5 stages of grief - denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance
@slorti4615 жыл бұрын
I still thought this was through the kid's point of view. I figured that the reason he thought the man in the red hood was the one who died was because he couldn't remember that he was really the one who died. I figured that waking up on the island and making his way through the levels was him realizing that he's dead.

Although many would, I think it could've been how fast the child disappeared. That storm was enough to knock the boat around harshly and throw things off of it, and the waves were a raging mass that would drag anything under in less then an instant. There technically wasn't anyway to save the boy. Combine this with the fact of shock and grief that overwhelmed the father and you get a type of paralyzing. It's sad because of how true this game is, not to mention no one was expecting to be in tears and have their hearts ripped into a million pieces. The Stages of Grief are harsh, but the fact that it happened to a small child is what really strikes, not to mention discovering all the loss this family has suffered. Light, no matter how many times I play, I will cry. It's so beautiful.

A play on the Kubler Ross Grief Theory, where someone goes through five stages when someone they know or love dies. DABDA: Denial - Denying someone has passed away or that you have or will. Anger - Becoming angry at everyone and thing because you have a sense of hopelessness and fear, so you lash out. Bargaining - Trying to find a way to bring someone back, bring yourself back, or extend your life a little longer. Depression - The realization that there is nothing you can do to stop what's happening. That this is truly it. Acceptance - Coming to terms with the fact that you or someone else has died, or that you have died. The thing with RiME is that it put a new spin, a new outlook on DABDA, that shows that if there is a purgatory or such, that it may be the persons way of finally reaching the end. Actually, it could mean a number of things, but the plot is basically a boy, and his father, accepting that the little boy (Enu) has passed away from a fishing accident in a storm. (Yes, I know this was a year ago.)
