Décrit comme un cabaret brechtien à l'humour très noir, comme une fusion punk entre le burlesque des années 1930, le music-hall anglais, ou encore comme le chaînon manquant entre Tom Waits et les Monty Python, The Tiger Lillies sont inclassables. Leur style s'inspire de la chanson française d'après guerre, de la musique gitane ou encore de l'opéra italien... La voix de haute-contre de Martyn Jacques est capable de s'aventurer aussi bien dans les graves que dans les aigues avec un timbre guttural permettant au chanteur de jouer sur la multiplicité des personnages.
Le groupe tire son inspiration d'artistes comme Jacques Brel, Edith Piaf, Marlene Dietrich, Billie Holiday, Johnny Cash ou Enrico Caruso. Maurice Ravel ou encore Erik Satie ne renieraient pas leur musique. The Tiger Lillies évoluent dans un univers singulier où le macabre rigolard jongle avec le sordide, où l'humour noir flirte avec la figure la plus triste de l'existence. Leurs chansons content des récits de bas-fonds où la brutalité côtoie la prostitution et les blasphèmes en tout genre, les losers magnifiques et les monstres les plus étranges.

What I love about this live recording is how the singer uses deep voices at times. This version was how I was introduced to all the songs in this play so when I hear them with out the gritty deep voice I feel like something is missing.

to be honest I didnt like the new drummer that much... he plays too professionally... No one can replace Adrian Huge... although we have to get used to the new guy as after what Martyn told me I strongly doubt that Adrian is coming back... :(
