Clean finish! Did you fully cure the first coat before applying the clear coat? Also, did you spray the clear coat cold, warm or hot? Been for good videos to teach application/curing techniques for 2 coats

Amazing results. Is it more cost-effective to do this rather than replace the guard? Ballpark, what does something like this cost? I have a black truck with chrome bumpers (front and rear) and am considering power coating the bumpers with a matte black finish for a little contrast against the glossy truck.

Do you re-clean the surface with a degreaser or wax and grease remover after outgassing? If not, wouldnt the oils just sit on the surface of the part and contaminate the finish?

We out gas to get surface oils burnt off. Not sure gases in the metal would come out through nickel, copper and chrome layers

Nice work, question is, once you put it in the oven after you shot the black, how long was it in the oven before you added the clear coat ? #2 how much cure time do you need after the clear coat is on , will it be time remaining or a full 20 min once clear goes on... Thanks

Yup, its square tubing so we clamp it on an open end on the bottom, hooks complete ground to part. Just got to make sure they are clean enough on the contact points, you'll notice the powder does not stick as well once your hooks get too covered.

Great video! Question: I have a HD engine guard that's chrome and I wanna to powder coat it gloss black. One of the local shops did not recommend sandblasting the engine guard cuz he believes that it will lose the smoothness in the look and touch even if we powder coater afterward. What do you think about that sir?

We coat just the outside of them and we sandblast the chrome lightly. I have a video going up soon showing this.

@@RightNowPowderCoating FYI, From several conversations with other experts in sandblasting and powder coating, I almost reached a conclusion that the local shop I went to did not recommend doing sandblasting because of the blasting agent he uses and the lack of experience in dealing with such objects. In my hometown, most of the shops that do sandblasting use real sand and not any other blasting agent. Sand particulates are larges than other agents and typically used for wall paint removal applications. Thanks alot anyways!

@@abdulrahimalnaser4250 Yeah chrome can be scary because you never know how well its on the part, and then to scuff it properly for paint adhesion is a tough and go issue. We have done tons of Harley parts with great luck, we usually turn down chrome wheels though, especially chrome aftermarket since the chrome on those sucks.

Pressure depends on the part, for chrome we shoot around 50psi keeping the gun a ways back from the item. Also we use coal slag, its readily available locally and fairly cheep. Lots of powder coaters use aluminum oxide but we have trouble getting it and its very expensive locally. Just make sure what you use has a sharp edge, glass bead is bad for powder as it does not give the powder anything to grab onto.

Nice work, were u using the preset Gema Recipes on your clear. Just curious, you were in pretty close to the part, which sometimes causes B/I as you know. I’ve been using the 2nd coat program pressure allowing good distance so no b/I issues. Usually u don’t see it on clears but blacks and reds for sure if u get to close. Nice work as always

I know these is kind of a topic that gets beat to death but have you ever tried doing an illusion color and the clear activator over regular unblasted chrome and what is your opinion on the finish, especially in regard to durability. I just sanded my chrome with a sanding pad, as long as its scuffed good it should hold on good.

In another video you said the best way to shoot transparent colors was to polish the part as opposed to using a chrome base coat. My question is say I polish an aluminum part ..id think There would be adhesive issues if the part is “polished smooth” ..

I did not, our black is the same as the clear, i usually drop the temp 5 degrees and do 15min at part temp of 385 on clear to prevent burning it

One thing I get confused on is after u off gas and see that it’s dark from oil what do you do then? Do you start over and blast it? Or just degrease it and powder ? Or just powder over it. This process confuses me on what to do if out gas shows oil

Depends on the part, on aluminum I would wash it, re blast, re heat to make sure no more comes up to the surface.

@@RightNowPowderCoating how does the clear coat powder get its electrostatic attraction? The first coat had bare metal but the clear coat should prevent the electrostatic attraction between the part and the powder.

@@markman63 where you have them hanging from should still be touch raw metal, so it gets its ground there. If you covered the bare metal with powder it would be a lot harder to apply multiple coats.

Sheesh...be careful with that. Where I am, if any of the city/county/epa departments get wind that you're blasting chrome, they'll shut you down in a heartbeat. Most old chrome is hexavalent, some newer stuff is trivalent...regardless, there are strict requirements for handling, storage, and disposal.
